Is This The End Of Steemit?

in #ask5 years ago

Dpoll isn't working so I am doing this the old fashion way. I haven't been on here much for the past week or so? So I missed some information since the interface changed. So someone else took over Steemit Inc? I've seen witnesses resign left and right.
I hopped on Blocktrades and the Steem coin is under construction.
Can we overthrow the new guy?

The resignations are from Steemit Inc employees. They are good smart people and I think their resignation is to protest the takeover of the Witness pool by Justin Sun, who bought the company Steemit Inc last week.

Witnesses are voted in by all the people who own Steem. Sun had convinced rich exchanges to vote with him for 20 new witnesses which are all controlled by him. But today, the exchanges changed their mind and removed their votes for Sun's witnesses. You can now see that 5 of the top 20 witnesses are again the witnesses we've had here for a long time, who were voted in by the community. The community has come together to vote for the witnesses who have been here for years. Check https://steemd.com/witnesses and look in the right column to see what version of the code they are running. Those running 0.22.5 are the witnesses that Sun voted in by himself. So the community is fighting back and has regained some control. There will be more changes daily and we'll see how it all works out. In the meantime, the price of STEEM is steady at around 18 cents, steemit.com is up and and working, and the STEEM blockchain is producing blocks as it should.

The steem/sbd coin is under construction because of this hostile take over?

I don't know exactly what is happening with Blocktrades. I use Bittrex to buy and sell STEEM, and have not had a problem with it for the last 4 years. You can see the STEEM/BTC market here: https://bittrex.com/Market/Index?MarketName=BTC-STEEM Bittrex did Not join with Sun and although I have not tried to buy or sell today, I have not heard of any problems on Bittrex.

do you have a tutorial for trading on Bittrex? And can I send my crytpos to my Coinbase via Bittrex?

I have not personally made a tutorial on moving tokens to or from Bittrex, or how to trade there, but there are a lot in the search results here on steemit:
https://steemit.com/search?q=bittrex%20tutorial

You can send STEEM and SBD to Bittrex, and trade that for Bitcoin, and send Bitcoin to Coinbase. Bittrex is a legit USA based exchange and will require KYC, meaning they will have to verify your identity, just like Coinbase.

I see that @paulag is offereing to buy STEEM with payment via PayPal. You can read about that, here:
https://steemit.com/hive-174578/@paulag/so-i-just-powered-up-and-if-you-have-steem-to-sell-i-will-buy-it

The Steem blockchain is currently being attacked by a central authority in order to take control of the witnesses. If you are not managing your witness votes, please consider setting @berniesanders as your witness voting proxy by clicking here to help restore the decentralization of Steem.

I don't think this is the end of Steem. Developers may have resigned from Steemit but I believe they still want to contribute to this blockchain and I am hopeful that some other entity would pay for their work soon if Steemit shuts down.

Witnesses, Tron and Justin had a meeting last night and Justin said he does not want to govern the Steem blockchain, he is just a businessman who wants to make profit. He would like to cash out Steemit's ("his") stake and leave, so I see the worst case is only STEEM price drop when Justin starts selling too much STEEM to exchanges...but then again, I don't really trust Justin's words because he has lied so many times since he acquired Steemit

He basically bought Steemit inc to farm Steem then. CEO's who only want to fill their bank account is bad for business.
He is like YT's CEO in away. Both do things that anger their users.

In my opinion Justin Sun is more like Donald Trump. He lies and promises things he knows he can't deliver and always blames others when something goes wrong
