Share your any experience of your life, in which you faced the emergency that could be handled by your own only if you know the basic first response skills.

Friends, last year I was in my uncle's house, it was a very dark night and we were sleeping in the room. My 17 years old cousin was also sleeping on the other side of bed. In the middle of the night about 1 AM, suddenly I felt that the whole bed is shaking and I woke up with fear. I started looking around in fear, when I saw my cousin, he was jerking heavily, a foamed like substance were coming from his mouth and facing difficulty in breathing. Seeing all this, I was shocked and did not know what to do to handle that situation.

Then, I controlled myself and try to analyze the situation and after seeing his condition and symptoms more deeply, I realized that he is having an epileptic attack. After that, I started giving him CPR to revive his breathing and called my uncle to wake up. On this, the other members of family also woke up and they were also helping us to controlled over this condition. And I was providing him CPR continuesly to revive his breath.

After sometime, his condition started coming normal as his breathing improved but he was still unconscious. So we gave him some anti epileptic drugs like Tegral (Carbamazepine) and Epival etc. Indeed, it was one of the most terrible situation of my life because I have never seen such condition and at the same moment, I was happy as I have saved a person's life.

Imagine you are walking back home, when you witness a road traffic accident between a car and a motorcycle, and the motorcyclist is lying on the road, not moving. There’s some bleeding from his leg, and he appears to be unconscious. You being the first responder, how will you manage this scenario?

Well, the road accidents happen all over the world, sometimes due to the negligence of people like, over speeding, violating the traffic rules and due to other misshapes. But if I witness a road accident, then the following things I will do to save the lives of people because saving lives is a virtue;

  • First of all, I will access the whole scene, ensure my own safety and then went towards the injured motorcyclist lying on the road.

  • Then, I will immediately call to the emergency number like 1122, the number of Pakistan's rescue service. I will provide them the information about the person's condition and about the exact location.

  • After that, I will check whether the person breathing or not, by checking his listing the breathing sings.

  • I will check the circulation of blood through his pulse and his heart beat through my palm.

  • If he is facing difficulty in breathing the CPR is required, then I will try to give him CPR until the rescue team not arrived.

  • I will check his injured leg's condition and will assume that it is broken or not, Then I will try to prevent the blood loss from his wounds by tying or covering them with clean clothes.

  • I will try to speaking calmly to the injured person to bring him out from unconsciousness.

QuestionWhat the Student Did WellAreas for ImprovementGrading
Question 1Provided a vivid personal account of witnessing a medical emergency, detailing the symptoms and your response during an epileptic seizure. Your ability to remain calm under pressure and administer CPR was commendable. While the narrative was strong, providing more details about the steps you took during CPR and how you ensured your cousin's safety would enhance your response. You could have included more about what epilepsy is and what exactly your cousin was experiencing and feeling at that time. Additionally, discussing the emotional impact of the situation on yourself and your family would add depth to your account. Also, the real question was if you had enough knowledge of first aid at that moment and you were a first responder, how would your approach have differed?[Grade: 1.0]
Question 2The approach to managing a road traffic accident was emphasized, highlighting the importance of safety and promptly calling emergency services. You showed a very poor understanding of the DRABC protocol. You didn’t mention checking for danger and what the potential hazards of a road traffic accident could be. Also, the very next step after checking for danger is assessing the airway and then breathing. You should mention how to assess the airway, like looking for any obstruction and interpreting the breathing by observing chest wall movements and warmth. Ensure clarity when describing how to assess the casualty's condition, particularly regarding breathing and circulation checks. Specify that if spinal injuries are suspected, the casualty should not be moved. Additionally, clarify what is meant by “speaking calmly” to the injured person. It's crucial to communicate effectively while assessing their responsiveness and monitoring their condition, as they might be very unconscious at that time; effectively tapping and asking them loudly is recommended. Also, remember to ask someone from the public to call emergency services rather than doing it yourself.[Grade: 0.5]
Question 3Created an engaging chart of the DRABC protocol, meeting assignment requirements. The visual representation follows the steps, but adding brief descriptions for each step in the DRABC protocol would enhance understanding. Also, consider adding visual representations and relevant elements for each step to better visualize the illustration. Ensure that you provide alternatives if any of the steps in the DRABC protocol cannot be followed.[Grade: 1.5]
Question 4Compiled a list of emergency contact numbers relevant to Pakistan, covering essential services as required.Including a brief description of each emergency number’s purpose would improve clarity and usability. Additionally, consider adding contacts for mental health support, women's helplines, child abuse resources, national suicide prevention, natural disaster rescue, and other critical services to create a more comprehensive resource for emergency situations.[Grade: 0.7]
Question 5Completed the quiz with a strong understanding of the material, achieving a commendable score.10 out of 10 questions were correct. Excellent work.[Grade: 2.5]

General Feedback:
Overall, your report demonstrates a good understanding of emergency response concepts. However, enhancing clarity in your explanations and addressing specific details in the protocol would significantly improve your responses. Additionally, considering the emotional aspects of emergencies can provide a more comprehensive view of the situation. Keep up the good work on the quiz!

Thank you.
