There are so many different colours and shapes of the Hover fly. They can be recognised by their very obvious flight patterns, hovering in one spot then suddenly moving forward, sideways and then back again to hover. Some people mistake it for a Bee because of their striped black and gold colour. They are members of the fly family that mimic bees and the wasps. Here you see it on a buttercup.
