Challenging Gender Norms Daily

Pakistan is a country where the ratio of gender discrimination is very high. Not because they are unaware of each other's value but because they don't want to value each other.

Society often teaches females to compromise simply because the person in question is male, be it a brother, cousin, friend, or any male relative.

I am growing up in a society where women are expected to adjust their behavior according to the moods of the males around them, which directly impacts the home environment.

In Quran Allah says:

And we created you all (sons and daughters of Adam A.S) with equal dignity. (17.70)

Equality of dignity is essential both at home and in the workplace. In Pakistan, many women work outside the home rather than solely taking on the responsibilities of housewives. While the acceptance of women working and their independence is increasing, there are still individuals with old mindsets who do not accept women's independence and criticize them.

Now, online culture in Pakistan has been established for many years in urban areas as well as rural areas.

I recently saw a TVC in which a mother instructs her daughter not to consume chicken leg piece because it is for her brother:))).

This instance of discrimination in food deeply affected me.*

Why does our society exhibit such behavior?

What we are missing?

Is there a gap that needs to be addressed?

How can we overcome it?

When a woman is a homemaker, she is praised for taking care of the household. However, if she chooses to work, she faces criticism.

Just because she chose herself over us?
Or
She seeks to be on equal footing with men.

These questions prompt us to consider the societal expectations placed on women. Many women work outside the home while also managing household responsibilities. It's essential to recognize that running a household is not the sole responsibility of women. Men are equally accountable. If women can manage both, then men should be able to as well.

What truly matters is taking action, as the times are changing.
