Airtel Payments Bank chief quits after Aadhaar controversy
NEW DELHI: the general manager and general manager of Airtel Payments Bank, Shashi Arora, resigned from the company after claiming to have secretly added customers during the verification of their mobile numbers, which led to sanctions and severe censorship for major telecommunications operators.
Arora was a veteran of the company and spent more than a decade with Airtel.
"Shashi has decided to move forward and look for opportunities outside of Airtel, and we very much wish Shashi in his future endeavors," said the company, which was criticized by UIDAI.
The incorporation of more than 30 Lakh customers to the Airtel Payments Bank has been a shameful incident for the largest telecommunications company after the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has sent a corporate case warning and thus suspended the online verification process of aadhaar (eKYC). for Airtel and its payment bank.
While UIDAI has temporarily allowed Airtel to make eKYC for its customers until 10 January, it has retained the suspension of online verification of the payment bank.
