The eye knows (Day 106: 5 Minute Freewrite:Friday - Prompt: The smell from within)

THE EYE KNOWS

She would hear things before the others. She could tell everything about an object by just feeling the groves and the indentations on its surface. But it was her nose that Ira was reknowned for. She was well known to the baker, to the fishmonger, to the food sellers of her town. For she would know when they were opening, by the smell alone.

But, one hand giveth, the other taketh away. For Ira was blind, like so many children in India. The cataracts which she was born with meant that Ira could not see anything and like her father, her other senses were pronounced as a result.

The day came for Ira's operation, and sight rejoined the family of hearing, touch, taste and smell within her. The world became awash with colour for the first time and she smiled an impossible smile.

Stories like this always bring a smile to my face. What joy to be able to do what the rest of us take for granted. Do the other senses diminish now that sight is gained? Today, I have the honor of delivering the next prompt:

Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment @omra-sky No, I'd like to think Ira will go on in her life with a profound sense of smell.. Maybe she will work in an industry like wine making or perfume making, where a keen sense of smell is essential... Who knows? :)

Really lovely freewrite. Thank you for sharing :)

Thanks a million @felt.buzz appreciate those kind words
