James Bond's Coolest Gadgets will Replace Him

in #spy7 years ago

James Bond is one of the most famous movie characters to portray the life of a spy on a screen. Despite being just a role played in a movie the theme was inspired by the real life of spies. High skilled and intelligent men and women that risked their lives in a real hide and seek game.

Such spies might become just a memory in the movies and in real life according to Dawn Meyerriecks, the CIA’s deputy director for technology development. In a conference in Florida the deputy told his audience that the agency is adapting to the new type of enemy spies that are no longer humans.

She informed that the agency is aware of other countries using AI to track spies and that in a digital tracking era to be a traditional spy using a fake identity, trying to get unnoticed is a hard job. Thus CIA is going to use AI to get the job done that only men like James Bond could have accomplished ten or fifteen years ago.

That transition is not something set up by the CIA over night, but it's the result of over 30 years of work and investments made by the agency. According to a government document, a group named “AI Steering Group” was founded in 1983 to make reports to agency's bosses about the work and researches conducted on developing AI.

"An encouraging number of AI R&D efforts have begun through the Community. These encompass such areas as expert systems, natural language processing, intelligent data base interfaces, image understanding, signals interpretation, geographic and spatial data management, and intelligent workstation environments."

Meyerriecks also confessed in an interview for CNN that CIA is aware of about 30 countries who have the required technology for spying without using the classic men and women used in the past. If before AI and FRS(facial recognition systems) spies had to use their charm, lies, fake IDs and smart gadgets to become invisible now it's almost impossible. Thus AI will take their jobs.

We can conclude that CIA predicted the demise of the classic spy jobs before Pierce Brosnan was getting famous playing the James Bond role due to their interest in developing such technology ignited over thirty years ago.

I still remember when I studied at the universtity the subject "artificial intelligence" in those years the professors did not know very well what to speak and today it seems incredible how far it has come ... fiction or reality?

I guess it's reality.
