Why you should power up on steemit !

For newbies it can be quite complicated to get started with steemit. Why are there several currencies? What is the difference between Steem, Steem power and sbd? Well I will not try to answer all these questions here. I want to speak about powering up. This is the action to transform steem into steem power. When powering up, you increase the power of your account and also your vote value. Steem can be sent, exchanged without problems. Once your steem is transformed into steem power, you loose this capacity. You can only transform steem power back into steem over the process of powering down. Powering down will allow you to transform a part of your steem power into steem but over a certain range of time. So to keep it simple, when you power up your money is more or less blocked on your account on steemit.

So why would you power up?

Increase your voting weight

When you power up, you increase also your voting weight. If you power up a lot, it will take a visible value. So each time that you upvote a post or a comment they will take a real value. First 0.01 sbd then maybe more. Your vote will become important.

Sell your voting weight

When your voting weight reaches a visible value, then your vote can also be sold. The easiest way to do so is to use the service provided by smartsteem. You can put into settings that you want to sell your votes only once you have above 95% voting power. So you don't miss on any voting power and also you are still free to upovte whatever you want.

Increase your influence

It is hard to say so but without voting weight nobody will listen to you on steemit! People comment or upvote post with value because they might hope to get curation rewards or your upvote on their comment. So when you have a certain voting weight, you can upvote your own posts and give them an initial value. This will attract other people and their upvotes or comments.

Get more followers

On steemit people follow people that will allow them to earn money. If your vote has some weight then so do your posts and this will attract people who can see potential income from your posts through curation rewards or upvotes.

Stabilize the system

Holding steem power is also positive for the whole system. The more people are holding steem power, the more the whole system and the prices of steem and sbd will be stable.

Invest when prices are low and profit

When the prices for steem and sbd are dropping so is also dropping your vote weight. You can never be sure that your upvotes will keep their value when markets drop. So low prices are a very good moment to invest into steem and to power up. If you look at the evolution of steem prices, you can see that there are regular up's and down's. The prices are at the moment very low. It's the prefect moment to invest into steem.
