Steem Fantasy Premier League - Gameweek 5 Overview

Gameweek 5 started with the early kick-off game between Spurs and Liverpool. I didn’t saw the whole game myself but from what I saw and highlights to judge the Reds were comfortably the better team at Wembley. For some Fantasy Premier League managers who had sold Liverpool assets the game proved a nervy one. While Liverpool’s highly-owned Fantasy assets didn’t manage an big points however, several of the Reds’ premium assets were close to registering points in the match. Mohamed Salah (13.0m) blanked for the second match in a row but was once again top for shots in the box with his colleague Sadio Mané (10.0m). Furthermore, Salah was also the most creative player with most chances created. Although stats says Salah is doing well he is not registering points and I have the feeling many Salah owners sees the game against Southampton at home next weekend as a “last-chance” game for Salah to show he’s worth the money.

In the Spurs team none really stood out and not a single player in their team passed my “eye-test”. Even though they got a nice run of fixtures coming up I won’t be looking to buy any Spurs player at the moment (beside maybe Moura( 7.4m) if he could hold his place in the team when Son (8.3m) is coming back). They offered very little going forward and none of their three shots on target was considered to be a big chance. This could also be seen as yet an example of Liverpool’s great defence as they remain the best side in the league for big chances allowed.For Spurs main man Harry Kane (12.5m) it was another poor display. Kane had just two shots in the match and yet again he dropped deep looking to try to win possession. For me this is not what Kane should be doing, he’s at his best in or around the penalty area.

My steem-pick for the gameweek, David Silva (8.5m) delivered in the way I expected him to do. In Man City’s 3-0 win over Fulham (even though it seemed like City had one eye on the Lyon game coming up in the week and took the gas from the throttle after the 2-0 goal) Silva scored a goal and managed 3 bonus points and a total of 11 points.

In the other match that previewed, Watford-Man Utd, United took a deserved and very important away win after goals from Smalling (5.8m) and Lukaku (11.0m). Andre Gray (6.0m) scored a second half equaliser to take his team back into the game but they couldn’t score a second although they came very close on extra time but were denied by a wonder-save from Dea Gea (5.9m). Lukaku has now scored 4 goals in 5 matches and that in combination with Man Utd’s favourable upcoming fixtures will see his ownership rise.

What did we learn from gameweek 5:

Ryan Fraser (£5.7m) was yellow flagged and a serious doubt for Bournemouth’s match against Leicester. He started the game, scored twice and assisted one goal. His display has for sure turned many managers heads and he has already gone up in price. Although he could be and become a real bargain for his price his underlying stats doesn’t suggest 18-point hauls. He earlier stats show that he is more of an assister than a goal machine. In the match against Leicester he had for example just two shots of which both find the back of the net.

Eden Hazard (10.8m). Is he the best player in Premier League? After his hat-trick against Cardiff he can be seen as an essential player to have, if there is such a player. Sarri football seems tos suite Hazard and Hazard seems to suite Sarri football. After lifting Alonso after last gameweek Mr. Sarri spoke very highly about Hazard this time: “I thought Hazard was one of the best players in Europe, but now I am changing my mind that he is the best.” It seems like Maurizio is starting to like his new players but is he too optimistic or just spot on?

The secondly most owned defender Mendy (6.4m, 36%) didn’t play due to an injury and City’s Main man up front, Aguero ( 11.4m, 51 %), was substituted after less than an hour with an ankle injury. Fantasy managers will have to monitor these players fitness before next gameweek.

Raul Jimenez (£5.5m), Matt Doherty (£4.4m), Jonny (£4.4m), Ryan Bennett (£4.1m), Willy Boly (5.5m), Rui Patricio (4.5m). There seems to be a lot of value in both defence and attack in Wolves. In their 1-0 win against Burnley (one of the worst displays of the season) Jimenez scored the winning goal an managed 8 points. In him an Ings (5.7m) we could have two bargain players for the third attacking spot in our teams. The Wolves defenders seems to have both clean sheets and attacking points in them for reasonable prices. Next up is Man Utd away but after that their fixtures looks quite good.

While the average score of the gameweek was 46 points the highest score was an astonishing 138 points from a West Ham fan-manager with his team BMB. He triple captained Hazard (60p) and had a strong midfield with Fraser (18p), Silva (11p) and Maddison (8p). His three forwards ( Zaha, Ings, Aguero) managed 7 points each while his two Crystal Palace defenders Wan-Bissaka and Van Anholt kept a clean sheet while the former also got 3 bonus points.

In our Steem Fantasy League we have got a new leader in Amos Bastian who managed 75 points which took his overall points to 358. The Overall rank for his team is 20,025. The highest score, 90 points, of the gameweek was set by two teams (“Aeolus Utd**” and “Red Devils”). Quite high scores taking into to consideration neaither manager had a really high scoring captain (Aguero and Pogba).Well done!
