Eintracht Frankfurt vs. Fortuna Dusseldorf 7:1
The 8th round of the German Bundesliga started with Frankfurt’s impressive 7:1 win over Fortuna Dusseldorf. After a penalty brought the lead in the 20th minute, the Frankfurt express started rolling with scorer Luka Jovic having a great day. After opening his personal 5-goal-day with a beautiful bicycle-kick, he scored four more and played a tremendous part in Dusseldorf’s 1:7 drama. With the clear victory Frankfurt comes close to the European starting places, while Dusseldorf stays at the bottom of the league table.

Bayer Leverkusen vs. Hannover 96 2:2
So far it has not been an easy season for Leverkusen, they rank far lower than they want to. Last week’s game against Hannover was close again. After getting behind in scoring two times, they only could tie for 2:2 after joker Bellarabi’s last minute goal in the 94th minute. When travelling to Bremen in the next round, a way better performance will be needed to get any points. The draw is bad for both teams, as both would have needed a victory to rise from the lower ranks of the table.

VfB Stuttgart vs. Borussia Dortmund 0:4
The VfB Stuttgart was this week’s victim of the Borussia Dortmund who is playing way above all expectations under Favre. Sancho opened the scoring for Dortmund in the third minute, three more different scorers followed (Reus, Alcacer, Philipp) followed and showed once more the Borussia has many people who can score. Before even reaching the 30th minute, the score already was 0:3 against Stuttgart – the winner of the match was already decided back then. Maybe it feels a little bit better for Stuttgart that the exact same result happened to Atletico Madrid a few days later as well. For Dortmund things continue to run well, of course they stay on top of the table after this result.

Augsburg vs. RB Leipzig 0:0
Probably the most boring game of the 8th round took place in Augsburg where the home team spilt points after a 0:0 against RB Leipzig. The draw was actually quite fortunate for the home team, Leipzig definitely had more chances and Orban alone should have made Augsburg loose. With the draw both teams stay in the top half of the league table – however Leipzig lost the close connection to leader Dortmund.

Wolfsburg vs. Bayern Munich 1:3
After bad weeks for the record champion from Munich, Bayern finally was able to win a game again. Even though Robben got a stupid yellow-red card, Bayern won 3:1. Man of the match was the Polish striker Lewandowski who scored two goals and assisted the third one. With the win Bayern rises a little bit in the table – however the fourth place is still way worse than the own expectations are. Bayern will need to start a winning streak in order to come closer to Dortmund who currently have four points more plus a way better goal-difference.

FC Nuremberg vs. Hoffenheim 1:3
Even though Nuremberg started with an early penalty-goal against Hoffenheim, they had to take a 1:3 home-loss in the end. After the break, Nelson quickly scored two goals, turning the game around in the favor of Hoffenheim – Szalai finished the victory of the away team with his header after around 70 minutes. The win helps Hoffenheim to come closer to the European ranks, while Nuremberg should look out not to be in the declassification area soon.

Schalke 04 vs. Werder Bremen 0:2
Schalke was facing the surprisingly good team of Bremen on Saturday evening. And after winning two in a row, Bremen was the team stopping Schalke. It was mainly Eggestein, who’s two goals brought Bremen the victory. They didn’t necessarily have more or better chances – however Eggestein just scored the ones he had. With the 2:0 away victory, Bremen is three points behind leader Dortmund and ranked at 3th place, while Schalke looks way worse at the 16th place, only one spot above the direct declassification area.

Hertha Berlin vs. SC Freiburg 1:1
The first Sunday match took place in Germany’s capital Berlin where the Hertha faced the SC Freiburg. Even though the home team got a quick lead in the 7th minute (Duda), they failed to stay on the top of the game and had to tie points after Kock scored a beauty from around 25 meters for the tie (36th minute). After the break no more goals were scored, and the match ended 1:1. A result that keeps both teams in the midfield of the table, with Hertha even being in the Euro-League startin spots for next season at the moment.

Borussia Moenchengladbach vs. Mainz 4:0
The 8th round was finished off by Moenchengladbach’s 4:0 home victory over Mainz. It was mainly Hofmann who brought the Borussia on the winning track. He was the one who opened scoring in the 21st minute and by delivering two more he secured the victory. The 3:0 was made by Hazard, the man who assisted Hofmann’s first two goals. With the clear victory Moenchengladbach secured the second place three points behind leader Dortmund, Mainz stays in the midfield of the table.

Eintracht Frankfurt vs. Fortuna Düsseldorf 7:1
Die 8. Runde der deutschen Bundesliga begann mit einem furiosen 7:1 Heimerfolg Frankfurt’s über Düsseldorf. Nach der Führung durch einen Elfmeter in Minute 20., rollte der Frankfurter Express so richtig los und vor allem Stürmer Luka Jovic erwischte einen Sahnetag. Nachdem er seien 5-Tore-Tag mit einem wunderschönen Seitfallzieher eröffnet hatte, legte er vier weitere Tore nach und war so maßgeblich am 7:1 beteiligt. Mit dem klaren Sieg nähert sich Frankfurt den europäischen Startplätzen, Düsseldorf bleibt nach dieser herben Niederlage natürlich weit unten im Tabellenkeller.

Bayer Leverkusen vs. Hannover 96 2:2
Bisher war es keine leichte Saison für Leverkusen, sie blieben klar hinter den Erwartungen zurück. Auch gegen Hannover wurde es wieder denkbar knapp. Nachdem sie zwei Mal in Rückstand gegangen waren, sorgte erst ein sehr später Treffer von Joker Bellarabi für den Ausgleich. Beim nächstwöchigen Spiel in Bremen wird sicherlich eine bessere Leistung notwendig sein, will Leverkusen erneut anschreiben. Das letztwöchige Unentschieden half beiden Teams wenig, nur mit einem Sieg hätte man sich merkbar aus dem Tabellenkeller nach oben gearbeitet.

VfB Stuttgart vs. Borussia Dortmund 0:4
Der VfB Stuttgart war das dieswöchige Opfer der Borussia Dortmund, die unter Favre weiter deutlich über den Erwartungen spielt. Sancho eröffnete den Dortmunder Torregen bereits in der dritten Minute, drei weitere Torschützen folgten (Reus, Alcacer, Philipp) und zeigten, dass Dortmund offensiv sehr breit besetzt ist. Es war noch keine halbe Stunde gespielt, da lag Stuttgart bereits mit 0:3 zurück und der Gewinner des Spiels war eigentlich klar. Vielleicht fühlt es sich für Stuttgart ein bisschen besser an, nun wo selbst Atletico Madrid mit demselben Resultat gegen Dortmund verloren hat. Für Dortmund läuft es weiter wie am Schnürchen, Tabellenplatz 1. Inklusive.

Augsburg vs. RB Leipzig 0:0
Das wahrscheinlich langweiligste Spiel der achten Runde fand in Augsburg statt, wo sich die Heimmannschaft mit 0:0 von Leipzig trennte. Für das Heimteam war dieser Punkt durchaus schmeichelhaft, alleine Orban hätte den Sieg für die Gäste durchaus fixieren können. Mit dem Punktgewinn bleiben zwar beide Teams in der oberen Tabellenhälfte, vor allem Leipzig verlor jedoch den Anschluss an Leader Dortmund.

Wolfsburg vs. Bayern München 1:3
Nach schwierigen Wochen für den Rekordmeister aus München konnten die Bayern endlich wieder eine Partie gewinnen. Obwohl Robben ungeschickt mit gelb-rot vom Platz musste, gewannen sie mit 3:1. Mann des Spiels war der polnische Stürmer Robert Lewandowski, der mit zwei Toren und einem Assist an allen Treffern beteiligt war. Obwohl man in der Tabelle auf Platz vier aufstieg, liegt man in München natürlich weiterhin deutlich hinter den eigenen Erwartungen. Nun brauchen die Bayern einen Lauf, um Dortmund möglichst bald einholen zu können – diese haben aktuell vier Punkte mehr und ein deutlich besseres Torverhältnis.

FC Nürnberg vs. Hoffenheim 1:3
Obwohl Nürnberg mit einem frühen Elfmetertor in die Partie gegen Hoffenheim startete, musste sie sich schlussendlich mit 1:3 geschlagen geben. Nach der Pause drehte Hoffenheim durch zwei schnelle Tore von Nelson die Partie, Szalai machte mit seinem Kopfballtor rund um die 70. Minute den Deckel drauf. Mit dem Sieg nähert sich Hoffenheim den internationalen Startplätzen, während Nürnberg weiter nur knapp über der Abstiegszone platziert ist.

Schalke 04 vs. Werder Bremen 0:2
Schalke traf am Samstag auf das bisherige Überraschungsteam aus Bremen. Und nach zwei Siegen en suite war es auch dieses, welches Schalkes Serie stoppte. Mit zwei Toren war es hauptsächlich Eggestein, der für den 2:0 Sieg verantwortlich war. Die deutlich bessere Chancenauswertung machte schlussendlich den Unterschied aus. Durch das 2:0 bleibt Bremen drei Punkte hinter Dortmund auf Rang drei, für Schalke sieht es auf Platz 16. hingegen ziemlich düster aus, die direkte Abstiegszone ist nur einen Platz entfernt.

Hertha Berlin vs. SC Freiburg 1:1
Das erste Sonntagsmatch ging in der Hauptstadt Berlin über die Bühne, wo Hertha den SC Freiburg empfing. Obwohl das Heimteam bereits in der siebten Minute durch Duda in Führung ging, mussten sie die Punkte am Ende teilen, nachdem Koch aus rund 25 Metern mit einem schönen Schuss ausgleichen konnte. Nach dem Ausgleich kam es zu keinen weiteren Toren, das Match endete 1:1. Ein Ergebnis, mit dem beide Mannschaften im Tabellenmittelfeld bleiben, Hertha aktuell sogar auf den Euroleague-Startplätzen für die kommende Saison.

Borussia Mönchengladbach vs. Mainz 4:0
Mit einem 4:0 Heimsieg von Mönchengladbach über Mainz endete die achte Runde der deutschen Bundesliga am letzten Sonntag. Hauptverantwortlich dafür war Hofmann, der drei Tore erzielte. Nach seinem Führungstreffer in Minute 21. legte er insgesamt noch zweimal nach. Auch Hazard erwischte einen super Tag, neben seinem eigenen Treffer zum 3:0 bereitete er Hofmann’s erste zwei Tore vor. Durch diesen klaren Sieg sichert Mönchengladbach Rang zwei ab und liegt weiter drei Punkte hinter der anderen Borussia aus Dortmund. Mainz hingegen bleibt weiter im Tabellenmittelfeld, sollte aber bald wieder punkten.
