My culture, my heritage. Ofala Festival of Okebo 11 in Umueri Okebo, Anambra State, Nigeria.
Ofala simply means celebration.
It is an annual outing of the king (Igwe)
It is a period when the king calls for celebration and it is mostly held during Xmas period, as we all know that Christmas is a festive period.
The last Ofala in my hometown (Umueri) lasted for seven (7) days i.e from 25th to 31st December, 2017. It was a great one.
It started with a night vigil where the community came together to thank God Almighty for His faithfulness and good works all through the year.
It consists of many events and display by different social and cultural groups in the community.
The men, women and youths also were not left behind and it was summed up with a thanksgiving service and a new year wish on the 31st December, 2017.
I was a witness and it was fun filled.
You are all invited this year, same date, same place.
Hope to see you there.
