Zik was a member of the nigerian youth moement(NYM), which was formed in 1936. he later formed the national council of nigeria and the cameroons(NCNC) IN 1994.

He used this poltical platform to include nationalistic ideas in its members and nigerian workers which was geared towards the challenge of the colonial domination.
