Teacher Corner 4: Encouraging Students To Do Sport!

In the world of education, achievement is one of the things that every student wants to achieve. To achieve achievement, motivation is one very important aspect. Typically, in school students should like or have an interest in the lesson to be successful in a particular way, which is a prerequisite for motivation. In fact, many students in schools have less motivation for achievement in sports. This is due to misunderstanding in sports lessons.

Many students feel that sport is difficult. Or, many students consider that to gain achievement in sports should have a certain talent. Thus, they are reluctant to exercise and choose to be passive during lessons without thinking of their talents that have not been exposed in sports. In fact, sports lessons are not difficult things to do, exercise as well as playing. And talent in the field of sports can be grown in the future if the students already have an interest in certain sports.

It is undeniable that sport is something everyone needs to do to maintain their physical health. Various types of sports can be done by students, not only have to play football, basketball, or badminton. The more important thing of this effort is to cultivate belief in students that sport is a physical necessity, just like the need to eat.

I myself as a teacher, though not a sport teacher, often motivate students to have an interest in sports. In this case, motivation has an important role in fostering students' interest to do sports. To cultivate that interest I often motivate students by showing great sportsmen, for example I introduce to students how Messi can become a famous footballer. Therefor, my students can see how they can destroy the boundaries that hinder them to succeed in sports.

Then, for sports teachers can foster students' motivation to exercise by doing creative sports activities. This can be done by applying various learning modes in sport lesson. This is necessary so that students are not bored of doing sport, as well as to ensure that every student in the class has an interest in different sports. Thus, every student has the opportunity to do sport they are interested in.

Another thing that is more important in motivating students to exercise is that teachers should appreciate every effort or interest of students in exercising. If there are students who often fail to practice a particular sport, the teacher should still appreciate him or her. That way, the student's motivation to keep trying will continue to increase. In addition, teachers also need to ensure that every other student respects their friends' efforts. Often, students are reluctant to exercise because they are afraid of being scorned by their friends for failing to show their skills.

In conclusion, teachers have an important role to increase student involvement directly in sport. Motivation is very important to cultivate students 'interest to participate in sport. With motivation driven by teachers to students to do sport, it is certain that students' interest will grow to participate in sport and become more active in achieving their achievements, especially in sport.
