Caphernaum - House of Peter

In Caphernaum is a wonderful statue of Peter holding a bunch of keys.

This is symbolic of the Priesthood Keys he received on the Mount of Transfiguration.

He had been promised these keys when he testified in Caesarea Philippi, by revelation, that Jesus was the Son of God. Upon the rock of Revelation would the Church be built. He needed these Priesthood Keys to administer the affairs of The Church on the earth as 6 months after he received them, Jesus was Crucified.

Sadly the keys he held went with him when he died but as was foretold, they would be restored to the earth at some future day. This day has come, in the summer of 1829, Peter, then a resurrected person, came along with James and John and restored these Priesthood Keys to a modern day prophet, so that the Church of Jesus Christ could ones again be administered on the earth - what a thrill. That modern day prophet was Joseph Smith, and these keys are still held in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
