7.11: making comebacks a little bit harder

Developers of dota 2 recently announced that there will be patches every week and this week, DotA released its 7.11 patch. This blog will be your quick guide on the recent changes that has been made by DotA. And on this patch it seems that they concentrated on Gold and buyback mechanics. This is an in-depth review on this week's patch and its impact to the game

Noticable Changes

Buyback cost changed from 100 + ( Level * Level * 1.5) + (Time * 0.25) to 100 + Networth / 13
Buyback no longer reduces gold earned after respawning

It seems that this change made buybacks more expensive than the previous one(if my math is correct). The good thing is that gold earned are not reduced after using buyback(notice the gold reduction icon you do buybacks?)

Seems like we won't see that again

AoE gold for the losing team no longer scales with the overall team networth difference, just the individual networth of the dying hero. Previously, a core on your team doing really well meant that a support on your team dying gave an increasing amount of gold to the enemy.

To make it simple, this only means that the gold that the team will receive when they kill an enemy hero will be solely independent on the dying enemy hero's net worth. So if you are behind in a game and your team killed a support hero of the other team you receive less gold compared to the one you are receiving on the recent patches. This also means that the losing team will most likely target the winning's team carry or the one who has a high net worth.

Game Impact

Since buybacks and comeback gold mechanics has been made even harder, comeback games will be harder to achieve mostly if your team is losing by a big margin. Also support roles on the winning team will be more of a sacrificial role in the later part of the game. Supports like weaver, vengeful spirit, dazzle and oracle may be coming back after this patch due to the saving abilities that this guys have. Game length might be shorter due to how hard the comeback mechanics are with this patch even with the gold reduction removal after doing a buyback. on the other end winning will be easy if you are on the winning team since buybacks are now a little bit expensive that what it used to be (if you killed a carry on the losing team with the huge networth). Games will be a little bit shorter and much more one sided on pub games.

and there you have it guys! a quick review on the 7.11 patch. These are all my assumptions and observations. Also I will be doing a blog about Dota+ later this week so be sure to drop by once it is out. Thanks and Happy reading!

Nice one. I should definitely get back into Dota 2! I've been sticking to shooters nowadays

@gamersclassified actually dota is much more better nowadays, with the most recent updates, players are less toxic and the game is more easier to understand. coming back to dota 2 would be easy for you

i played a lot of league of legends i really should give dota 2 a chance

definitely! the switch from LoL to dota 2 would be easy for you. mostly nowadays that valve has made it easier for new players to understand the game.
