I discovered Steemit in a link to a post from Clif High at http://halfpasthuman.com/, and have been lurking for a few weeks. As a writer who has been procrastinating about doing anything on social media to promote my books, I am intrigued by what I see evolving here. I'm also repelled by what I have seen on Facebook, including the bias, and the poor business model it offers advertisers.

When I retired for the fourth time in 2010, I finished two novels, long delayed by the higher priorities of family, business, and the need to make a living.

I quickly determined that the barriers to traditional publishing were insurmountable for someone who is not an ax murderer, a dirty politician, a rock star, a sports figure, or movie star. I also did not have the funds, or inclination, to pay any of the many organizations that offered to “help” me make my book a best seller, assuming my pockets were deep enough.

Fortunately, the technology and business models of self-publishing were becoming a reality that I could use.

The first book I published as a Kindle eBook on Amazon, BB-39, is a Greatest Generation Novel. It chronicles the story of five young men in the pre-WWII battleship Navy and beyond. Events fracture their friendships, loves, and lives. Forged by a conflict greater then themselves, they move in divergent paths. In 1990, an accident starts another chain of events that brings redemption, twilight lovers reunited and a Korean War pilot rescued from a Siberian Prison Camp.

All my other books are hard Science Fiction stories of people attempting to survive an extinction event. The stories show changes in adult personal relationships driven because the world will never be the same as it was.
