Tell your story #39: A Message to Gen Zs
Hello, Reader!
Welcome to my blog. This week on Tell Your Story with @ruthjoe, I'd about an uncommon experience I hope all young people can learn from. Please, let's welcome @anay1705 and @kyrie1234 to join this week's story. Much love.🤍

Believe me when I tell you that there is power in the tongue. But that's not all. The words we speak carry power and so do our thoughts.
Growing up, I remember how my Sunday school teacher always admonished us to be mindful of the words we profess or tell to others. Whether in play or joke.
Recently, I joined my friend at her place. She lives in a large compound which is preoccupied by mostly students. I go there often, especially during test and examination periods since the place is close to school.
We were chatting that evening with some nursing students who had class assessment tests the next week (which is this week) when two boys rushed out of the compound as if something was after their lives.
It was not long before they returned with an autorickshaw, which we call keke and asked it to wait at the gate. When they rushed in again, we had to follow them this time. My hairs stood on ends when I saw a body lying motionless under the stairs. Tiny bits of blood and plenty of water were smeared all around the floor.
Someone screamed “Jesus! What happened?”
One of the guys was already crying by now and someone had to pacify him while one of the student nurses checked the injured boy's pulse.
“He is alive! Please rush him to the nearest hospital". The student nurse shouted.

They bundled him into the autorickshaw while we trekked down, in fact, more like ran to the hospital, since it is a stone throw from the compound. By the time we got to the teaching hospital, we were already out of breathe from walking so fast. And the injured boy was already admitted into the Casualty Unit.
We could hear him groaning "Oh, oh!" in pains which was a relief since we thought he was dead.
We later discovered that he was chatting with a Spanish woman. In the course of their discussion, he disclosed that he fell off the stairs and so needed some money to treat himself.
Ladies, there was no light for some days in the whole of town and so students couldn't pump water since there is no generating set in the compound. He had to fetch some water from another compound outside. While climbing to his room which is on the third floor, he somehow lost his balance and fell. Someone said his friends were trying to play a trick on him. Out of fright, he slipped, hit the rails and capsized.
One of the jerry cans broke. His left elbow, ankle and rib got fractured in the process as well. Now that lie became true. He is currently undergoing treatment and it costs even more than the money he got from the lady.
Whether his actions are moral or criminal are areas I do not wish to delve into now. But I picked a lesson from his experience: never to tell a lie to defraud people. Some young people engage in unscrupulous activities where they end up telling lies to cover their tracks. From this story, it can be deduced that some lies actually land people in hell right here on earth. Just as in this guy's case.
Now, I would like to know. Have you ever said something in a joke and it happened? Please share your experience in the comment. Thank you for reading my thoughts. 💙🤍
