Split Open (Persea Americana)

in #food6 years ago

A fun avocado painting right after the pomegranate one today. I am really diggin' the slightly oily yet watercolory effect achieved with gouache. The full avocado actually ended up looking like an egg because I didn't paint the actual texture and I started thinking about the 3 eggs from GOT. I actually am thinking of doing an illustration of them with watercolors soon. Anyway, the softness that the titanium white provides is actual magic to my eyes even when I am painting.

I tried to take a video of the full process too but it is a little shaky, so my apologies in advance. I really need to start shooting them a little professionally! I love how the full page looks with the pomegranate at the top and avocado at the bottom with blue and yellow backgrounds. They look cohesive together and I really like how the framing is adding a little interest to the page. Next might be a little more complex practices with some kind of composition I guess? What do you guys think about this?

This actually looks like a pears

It looks like an egg to me :D I didn't bother making the texture in this one and it looks too smooth to be an avocado! Good practice though :)

Love this- fabulously vibrant painting. I really like gouache too- especially the intensity of the colours you get with them. E x

Hey, thank you so much! That's exactly what I love about them too! Do you often paint with gouache/watercolors often?

I barely ever use watercolours but I did get into using gouache for quite a while. I'm learning to paint with oils at the moment so they've been my primary medium this year- but I do miss the immediacy, pace and graphic nature of working with gouache. Evie x

Oh man, oil is so not my territory right now lol. But someday...(hopeful eyes)
I would love to check out some painting of yours. Do you post your artworks here?

I'm finding it a steep learning curve! I've got process pics to post from my first oil and will post soon... but here's a sneaky peek...

Wow, this is so beautifully done! Love the tap and water especially :)

Thank you- I appreciate it! I learned so much on this piece. Hopefully will improve as I go along! E x
