It's often said that marriages are made in heaven, but upon closer examination, this becomes a dirty joke. In reality this notion is far away from the truth. If marriages truly originated in heaven, they would transcend societal boundaries, encompassing individuals from diverse backgrounds and there would be no discrimination or coercion for arranging marriages. Also, there would be no arrange marriage. In such a heavenly scenario, marriages would be everlasting, free of dowry, devoid of divorces and polygamous tendencies, while ensuring universal happiness.

However, the contemporary landscape of matrimony tells a different tale. In recent years, the institution of marriage has undergone significant transformations, leading to a myriad of challenges. Women, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, often find themselves trapped in the clutches of patriarchal oppression. Conversely, men from middle-class backgrounds are feeling as if they are compelled to serve as subservient partners to their wives.

Moreover, modern marriages have become increasingly extravagant, placing undue financial strain on the middle class people who don’t have much resources, but wish to see themselves as the rich. It is not bad when women assert their rights and challenge traditional gender roles. However, the rise of radical feminism, characterized by hostility towards men, is possessing a significant threat to marital harmony.

For example in country like India, women have more rights than the men. They are protecting against the domestic violence. However, when a woman do harm her husband, there is no such provision in the laws of the country. A married woman can sent the family of her husband to jail by just registering a case of dowry demand and domestic violence against them. In the past there have been lots of examples where a woman was in a relationship with other man and when she find it difficult to maintain, she registered case against her husband and in laws. Many greedy women used to blackmail their husband using the provisions of laws. Many women do not want to see the family members of her husband while they welcome their family member with great joy.

In the modern time usually people have all the utilities and equipment in their home. So, women who are housewives, have plenty of spare time. But, they are busy in talking on phones or making friends, usually men from outside. So, the married men are in a great distress these days. If they say anything to their wives, cases are registered against them and their family members. In most of the cases, their evil wives take a huge portion of their earnings and property as alimony after divorce. But, divorce also come after a painful court procedure. Women who are financially powerful, do not like disturbances caused by in laws and children in their life.

In this scenario men are not finding it very comfortable in living in the married life. They are thinking that marriage will make them a slave and they would lose their freedom because of it. That’s why many people, including women, who are financially well, are not resorting to marriage. This is the reason behind growing population of people who are happy to live as single.
