STEEM-ITISM: THE SCIENCE OF STEEMING IT

test-experiment-science-chemistry-ss-1920.jpg

I am not one to be serious at least , not most of the time ,I try to be light in my approach to things while I take life steady because I have always believed it's not by how fast you can run , it's by how smart you take your steps. So for the reason of that, I will like to speak to the newbees (those joining steemit for the first time).

I joined, this month (Nov. 2017), making me almost unqualified to advise anyone on how to be successful down here on Steemit. Nevertheless, I wouldn't shy out of the need I'm about to meet right now - the need of direction for those that were once lost like me. Some of us don't have the advantage of seminars and mentors to look forward to on steemit.

So for those that care to listen to a minnow like me, just know there is a science that governs steemit. For the witty purpose of fun,I named it: Steemitism and how you apply that science to engineer your success is totally left to you.

These are my thoughts:

  1. Steemit is not Facebook, it's very very very different, there is a reason why I said “very” three times. You need to be really smart down here. There are somethings nobody will tell you until you probably ask. I have been here for a while now and everybody says good post is what rocks, yes, it does, no doubt!, but my dear minnows, something else rocks: Mentorship. People here have certain mentors they follow, most of which are whales with above 65 rep, this people have interests, when you identify with their interest, they reward your loyalty. I once had a post with 30 votes and no real dollars, you know why: because Minnows like you upvoted it. It meant a lot to me, i feelt rewarded in kind but not in cash. I am saying you might just need the Whales to feed you before your posts drown in this ocean called Steemit. Some people call it Planet Steem , maybe that’s because It has it's own Social Intricacies that are so different from what you are used to. So beware and know what you are doing.

  2. What you write does not depend on you (at least, not exactly)It's depends on what the steemians care about. Content is not king here, Customer is. If you notice, you could have a post upvotes that would be three times the views, why is that? It means,to me, that some people saw your post, liked the title and then they upvoted it. More so, most steemians gravitate towards post that teaches them how to be successful down here on steemit. So that is a suggestion of a niche you can write in.
More so, in defense of the integrity of steemit, posts that teaches and solves a problem are always well received. It builds a good reputation for you. This leads me to my next point.

  3. Reputation is very important here. I am not talking about the rep score attached to your username in parenthesis.

Actually I thought that was my age until I saw it moving towards 40 (now 46 at the time of writing).that was when I
got scared, I was like "eh! how come?". i had to ask @tojukaka that question at the steemit meetup we had.

So as I was saying, your reputation here matters. I mean you need to be careful what you post, what you say on discord
or steemit.chat and how you relate with people. Post contents that are helpful, and people will help you by upvoting and better still, resteeming it. That's it. Upvote and resteem people's posts too when you consider it helpful or awesome, and let them know you did that, not so they could reciprocate, but to encourage them. Despite the money chase here, people still love it when someone else appreciates their effort and he or she is bold enough to say "Good Job" or any other variant of Kudos.

Lastly,Try and Understand what steemit is all about. Don't just write and leave. it's important , not just for steem . Read about Blockchain, cryptocurrency, steem as a token, curation , bots and other crypto-competitors out there. Please, do!.

That's my 2 naira worth of advice , spend it wisely. and "Don't forget me when you are Steemingly-rich".

Hello @akitunde, Welcome on board! Good post 👍. Upvoted. I read about the minnows in your post. But most of us are not yet minnows. We are the red fishes. Even at reputation level 52, I am still a minnow.

  • Red Fishes or Planktons - are those who own between 0 and 999,999 VESTS
  • Minnows - are those who own between 1,000,000 and 9,999,999 VESTS.

You can check that you are a red fish here http://steemitboard.com/

I have also got it wrong before I stumbled upon this post by @ana-maria, a must read for good guidance on this subject https://steemit.com/steemit/@ana-maria/are-you-a-minnow-at-the-moment-shocking-contest-results.
