[DTM]: Four broken cars, a red flag and triumph Edoardo Mortara. Review of the Saturday race.
Hello! Well, this weekend besides football was a lot of interesting and in motorsports. This week in WRC passed the hardest stage of rally of Portugal, and in DTM continuation of an outstanding start of a season. And start today with the ring races because there the second race weekend was no less outstanding than the first. So welcome to Brandenburg on the Lausitzring circuit, the most untypical route for Europe.
Saturday's qualification of the first race was a surprise. Lucas Auer won his next pole position, second place on the grid was taken by his compatriot Philip Eng. Beginner season squeezed from the second position of the hardened Bruno Spengler. Pascal Wehrlein took the fourth place in Saturday's qualification, again improving his performance after returning to DTM. In the previous qualification he managed to occupy the eleventh and fifth places in the qualifications. The current race leader Timo Glock was fifth, and in sixth place his teammate Marko Wittman.
The Saturday race was a real hell for the Audi team. At the start, Ingolstadt lost two crews. Niko Mueller's car, which was stalled at the start, became a participant in the first serious accident this season. Rene Rast managed to dodge the obstacle on the road, but the trail Jamie Green did not manage to maneuver and almost immediately braked directly into Mueller, developing both his car and the car of the German racer. Employees Lausitzring took a lot of time to remove the debris and leaking oil from the track, about twenty minutes on the track was the safe car, after which it was again started. But the race did not last long, and after a few minutes, Loic Duval, unable to cope with the drift at the corner, knocked out his teammate René Rast from the track, making several turns his car flew off the track and crashed, the rider himself remained intact, which he immediately signaled, but he needed the help of doctors. A completely broken car saved the life of the rider by proving his safety. Meanwhile, a red flag flared over Lausitzring. Workers of the track again had to clear the track, take away the broken cars, and not everything was clear with the health of René Rast. But after making an X-ray in the nearest clinic, doctors did not find any fractures in Rene for reasons of precaution, doctors advised him not to participate in the Sunday race. Meanwhile, on the track, the beginning of the race was postponed, and when everything was ready again, the start was given. After the remaining twenty minutes of the race in a bitter struggle with Philip Eng, the triumph was won by the Italian Edoardo Mortara for whom this victory was the ninth in his career. The second came to the finish line Timo Glock and his first podium in the career was celebrated by Philip Ang. Started from the poles Lucas Auer for a long time in the lead in the race, but in the final stage dropped to the fourth line.
Well, the third race of the DTM in 2018 demonstrated a real racing action. But Audi's mechanics will obviously have a sleepless night, because they need to prepare cars for the Sunday race.
