The second building of Barcelona Tech City will be destined only to Blockchain
Pier01 is a building built in mid-2016 as the headquarters of Barcelona Tech City, in which the main idea is that start-ups, investors and innovation centers of the Catalan capital live together. But the plan evolved much more to stagnate in the idea of a simple meeting point for the ecosystem.
"The idea is to have a Tech City campus, with buildings that go from 22 @ to the center of the city, passing Pier 01 in the port". These were the words of Miguel Vicente, president of the Barcelona Tech City cluster, which brings together a good part of the city's digital ecosystem.
It is expected that for the summer of this year will be open to the second campus, which according to sources quoted by La Vanguardia , will be devoted to the specialization in blockchain technology.
This time, it will be a 400 m2 plant that will be next to a well-known restaurant in the area and will be quite close to the first building, Pier01. On this occasion they plan to maintain the same dynamic and style of bringing together enthusiasts of all kinds (investors, entrepreneurs, etc.) in a space where projects can be born.
La Vanguardia points out that the network of Alastria, a Spanish block chain, is likely to be the engine that will give rise to other initiatives within the campus and possibly the country. It is normal to have this expectation, because blockchain itself has a potential that has been recognized by different people both inside and outside the ecosystem. In fact, the acceptance is so great that there are those who reject cryptocurrencies but praise blockchain.
Alastria is an association with hundreds of members in Spain, from Caixabank, Sabadell, Endesa and Gas Natural to Eurecat, Foment del Treball, Indra, Iberdrola, Mapfre, Orange, Repsol, Roca Salvatella, Scytl or Telefonica and several universities. The fact of gathering so many companies is what supports the theory that it could be the engine that gives rise to new initiatives based on the block chain.
It is expected that by the time Tech City has all the campus buildings in operation, the French car company Seat will be responsible for connecting the buildings with vehicles specifically intended for the campus.
Tech City has signed a contract this week with collaborative terms with the company Foment del Treball, in which they commit, among other things, to "the creation of a new space for entrepreneurs, similar to Pier01. This first building has already completed its capacity, and in its 11,000 m2 it is able to gather more than 1,000 professionals.
