Hello steemians!

Let me share with you, one of the most beautiful places I ever visited and you may already know that I love colourful places, so my choice for today is Chefchaouen.

As I previously mentioned, we were based in Fes and we managed to rent a bus and a guide and make some day trips to Rabat, Chefchaouen and in the last day, we went to several small towns, but also to the Cedar Forest where we met some adorable monkey. Can’t wait to share with you my video, I was so happy, smiling from the bottom of my heart. I fell in love with Morocco and I definitely want to be back someday to visit the south of the country. So I still have at least two travel posts to make about Fes and my monkey experience, stay close!

So we are returning to Morocco, Chefchaouen which is located in the northwest and was founded in the 15th century.
If you love trekking, Chefchaouen is a great place to that because is located in a mountainous region, the Rif Mountains!!

The atmosphere here was super chillaxed and there weren’t that many tourists like in Fes or Rabat, probably because is kind of far from this crowded cities.

I enjoyed my walk through the medina if you have time you should definitely drink a coffee or eat your brunch.

Because there are many marijuana plantations, I was approached by a guy who was selling marijuana/hashish, but I kindly declined his offer and none of us was offended.

There are so many shades of blue, I barely heard about a few of them, but everywhere you see blue houses, doors, stairs, windows, streets.

There are two stories of why the city is painted in different shades of blue colour:

  1. During the 20th century, a big number of Jews moved in the city and for the blue is the colour of divinity.

  2. Insect repellent, this was the story that our guide told us. Not that spectacular.

You can choose the one which suits you the best.

The locals are repainting and reconsolidating the blue colour every year, they totally know how to do tourism. If you chose to visit Chefchaouen from Fes, you should take care of what you eat because this road made some of my fellow motion sick so to be safe you should have so medicine with you.

Why to visit this city

  • vibe

  • food

  • colourful city

  • if you are a weed/hashish smoker

How to get from the airport to the city

There is no airport here, the closest international airport is in Tangier. So probably, you landed in Marrakesh, Tangier or Fes.

If you travelling by yourself the cheapest way is to take the bus. Here is the website where you can find more.

If you are travelling with a group it’s better to rent a mini-van. You should talk at the reception of your hotel.

Accommodation

There are lots of choices both on Booking or Airbnb. Our guide recommended us for our next visit Dar Besmellah. Look for them on Booking.

When it’s the best time to visit

  • Winter

  • Spring

  • Autumn

If you don’t stand the heat, you should definitely avoid going here on summertime, the temperature reaches 35 Celsius Degrees.

Public Transportation

You don’t need any public transportation, it’s such a small city and it’s only for pedestrians.

Did you know that?

Maroc is the number one country in hashish and marijuana production. There are so many plantations in the north of the country. So the Rif Mountains are definitely one of the greenest zones.
