a Scottish-born blacksmith, made a special pedal for bicycles. Certainly not a machine like that of a motorbike, but more like a crank-activated thruster, through the movement of a foot-by-foot pedal. MacMillan had already "dared" to connect the crank with a stick!
This free wheel system itself is a rear gear system that gives freedom rear wheel rotates freely from the pedal. So when the pedal is turned, the chain and the rear wheels will follow as usual, but when the foot stops turning the pedal, the chain stops moving, the rear gear stops twisting, but the rear wheel can still spin as per momentum. You could say this free wheel drive system is only locked in the direction.
The torpedo brake itself is mounted on a wheel-based bike, and becomes an internal part of the rear wheel hub. Torpedo bikes can be identified from a small lever coming out of the rear hub and "tied" to the bike frame. Overview of a torpedo bike can look like a fixed-wheeled bike without a brake, but because of its free wheel-drive system, it will not be categorized into fixed-wheel bikes.
