How do we make the difference between a fake smile and a real smile?
Dear steemians,
Today I want to talk about smiles.
Almost all people on the planet mentally associate the state of happiness or of the optimism with a smile. In fact, this simple gesture has a fantastic influence on our brain, it changes in just a few seconds states of sadness or depression.
In the opinion of psychologist Lenke Iuhos, when we let go the positive feelings caused by a smile, we become more tolerant at things that sometimes annoy us, we get more confidence and quickly get closer to other people and easily open new opportunities.
Unfortunately, we don’t have many chances to try these qualities that we are born with, because we spend more and more time on the Internet, and our emotion are simulated just by the virtual environment through emojis. Many of us have forgotten to smile and this natural gestures may even be (and in more of the times is) our panacea, the medicine that treats every negative mood and physical illnesses.
Medicine has demonstrated that psychosomatic illnesses exist, caused by our negative moods that push on our internal organs. Thus, our entire health depends on our state of mind, our attitude towards life and the smiles that we share in the real world, not only in the virtual one, declare the psychologist Lenke Iuhos.
The smile is good for us when we work - an impetus for success
The smile is a functional facial expression, caused by the success, the happiness or raising personal interest. Used at a conscious level, this is a form of communication of well being. Being a retrospective process can positively influence the lived emotional experience.
The smile it reduces stress
Researchers has shown that smiling during a period of stress helps to reduce the body's response to stress, whether the person feels happy or not.
Smile has the unique ability to almost instantly reduce the amount of stress hormones in the body, increasing the number of antibodies against infections, thus improving the resistance to the disease. Smile also helps if there is no real happiness behind it, says psychologist Lenke Iuhos.
The smile strengthens our heart
By smile, we can come to laughter, a positive reaction that blows the body. Lifetimes enriched with smiles and laughter often improve blood circulation, reduce the risk of heart attack and other cardiovascular problems, says psychologist Lenke Iuhos.
The smile builds relationships
Try to smile, even if you have no reason to do it. After a while, you will notice that you are relieved of a discomfort that occurs instantly because of fatigue, negative social influences. Smile improves self-confidence and makes you cheerful. Smile creates endorphins, that is, the hormone of happiness, and will make you feel good. Smile brings people together, makes communication easier. Also, if you call the store vendor with a big smile on your face, he will be more willing to serve you, says psychologist Lenke Iuhos.
How do we distinguish an usual smile and a natural smile?
The usual smile is limited to the use of the muscles of the mouth, and in the case of the natural smile "mobilize" and the muscles around the mouth and eyes (the lines rise up and small wrinkles appear in the corner of the eyes). Since we can not move the muscles around the eye this way, the smile of the Duchenne (the natural one) is generally considered to be the expression of sincere joy.
Usually a natural smile is accompanied by a close, symmetrical visual contact so that half of it does not fall below the other and the lips are not wrinkled. Honest smile presupposes loyal goals and is a sign that man sympathizes with the person he is looking at, explains psychologist Lenke Iuhos.
Smiles transmit information beyond words
Some research shows that smile is more than a facial expression, it not only shows emotions but replaces the word spoken in thought or intent.
We politely smile when we meet someone for the first time or have an unwanted conversation. There is a forced mouth movement, there is no real feeling behind it, we are not excited. We are encouraged to continue our conversation with our interlocutors, which is indicated by a smile with high eyebrows. A simple smile with a closed mouth, with a slight pressure on the muscles of the mouth, indicates the position of the stranger, concludes psychologist Lenke Iuhos.
