If you are looking for a place to hike, ride a bike, picnic or just enjoy the nature and spend fun time with your family, there is an urban oasis surrounded by Dallas's city life called White Rock Lake Park. It is almost 2,000 acres including "the jewel of Dallas," White Rock Lake. With nearly 9,4 miles of hike and bike trails, this place is visited by more than one million people every year. It offers a variety of active and passive activities, such as running, hiking, birdwatching, fishing and relaxing just by sitting on a bench and enjoying the landscape. It is a lovely area in town filled with people and a lot of things to do. There is a wide variety of animals and plants that you can see. White Rock Lake Park is the home to one of the endangered species like black prairie, a sort of waist-high grass. For all the animal lovers and their pets, there is a dog park at White Rock Lake Park, which is the first city dog park in Dallas opened in 2001. A Conservancy Store is available for purchasing some items, and all of the money goes for the benefits and maintenance of the park. So if you like to have a place like this to escape the rush and busy life, donate to the Store, and it will make a difference. This park hosts a wide range of events, from marathons, fishing competitions to boat races and music festivals. On the west side of the park, there is a replica of George Washington's Mount Vernon house. In addition, there are beautiful picnic areas where you can spend the day in this quite, the locals' favorite spot in town. There is also the White Rock Lake Museum located in the park, preserving human and natural history, where visitors can enrich their knowledge about the history of this area. One of the most popular gathering sports is Stone Tables built in 1930. Overwatching a part of the park and lake, sits the Flag Pole Hill, a popular place for parties, picnics and all sorts of large gatherings.
