1. Some Ideas on What Might Have Caused the Low Participation Rate in SLC Season 23 - And New Questions Arose
Season 23 of the SLC may have been one of the seasons that have low participation in the history of the Steemit Challenge. Several things can probably be pointed out as reasons for this condition, as suggested by @nsijoro, @blessedlife, and @wakeupkitty, in the comments section of the post I uploaded a few days ago about the declining participation in the SLC, among others:
- The uncertainty of support for Challenge participants, while some classes require significant ‘sacrifices’ in terms of time, thought, and even financial capital;
- It is increasingly difficult for Steemians to engage in some classes as in the past, due to things such as: the classes available are increasingly specialised and only possible for Steemians who have background knowledge and/or experience in the topic (e.g. cooking, sewing);
- The increasing difficulty of the materials in the classes makes it almost impossible to complete one article in 1 or 2 days;
On the one hand, the Steemit Team has formulated and implemented policies that are expected to reduce (and even eliminate) the use of AI in Challenge participation, such as by organising classes and clubs that promote practices. However, an interesting question was raised by @blessedlife, “Did (the high interest in the Challenge in) season 22 come with a huge increase in AI involvement and plagiarism, or other flaws?” And I can agree when she followed up with, “We don't have that data.”
So, there was 1) an increase in fervour to combat the use of AI in the Challenge, and 2) a decrease in participation rates in the Challenge. This question is indeed interesting: “Do these two things have a causal relationship?” Is it true that the war on AI use has been the cause of the decline in participation in the Challenge? In my opinion, even if it is, it is not the only cause, and not a very significant one. I rather believe that the reasons in the first paragraph of this post have been a bigger factor in this situation.
2. What About STEEM and SBD Prices? Is It One Of The Other Factors?
Another question then arises, do STEEM and SBD price dynamics also have an influence in this? This question kept gnawing at my mind, so I recollected the latest SLC statistics up to season 20, and the historical price data of SBD and STEEM throughout the seasons, both per season and per week of the Challenge. I collected the historical STEEM and SBD prices from CoinGecko. I find this is interesting. Perhaps in the future, I will collect data to previous seasons that are more distant.
3. Statistics
This statistical report will consist of 2 data tables and the diagrams generated from them. The diagrams will be divided in monitoring based on: 1) SLC seasons throughout the last 4 seasons and 2) Weeks throughout the 4 seasons; each of which will have 5 diagrams.

The first data table is of STEEM and SBD prices (high, low, median) in each programme week during the seasons 20 - 23 of SLC.

My Conclusion
From what I've seen, it seems like the STEEM and SBD token price spike in mid-season 22 didn't have a strong enough effect to increase participation numbers at the time. Or it could also be because the price spike only happened in a very short window of time, so it hasn't had a big enough effect on participation in the Steemit Challenge. I would really like to read anyone's thoughts on this. Thank you in advance.

Musim 23 SLC mungkin telah menjadi salah satu musim dengan partisipasi yang sangat rendah dalam sejarah Steemit Challenge. Beberapa hal mungkin bisa dituding sebagai alasan rendahnya angka partisipasi peserta pada SLC musim tersebut, sebagaimana yang dikemukakan oleh @nsijoro, @blessedlife, dan @wakeupkitty, dalam seksi komentar di dalam postingan yang saya unggah beberapa hari lalu tentang menurunnya partisipasi di SLC, di antaranya:
- Tidak pastinya dukungan terhadap kesertaan di dalam Challenge, sementara beberapa kelas menuntut “pengorbanan” yang tidak sedikit dari segi waktu, pikiran, dan bahkan modal finansial;
- Semakin sulit bagi Steemian untuk terlibat dalam beberapa kelas seperti di masa lalu, disebabkan karena hal-hal seperti: kelas-kelas yang tersedia semakin bersifat khusus dan hanya mungkin diikuti oleh para Steemian yang memiliki latar belakang pengetahuan dan/atau pengalaman pada topik kelas (misal memasak, menjahit);
- Tingkat kesulitan materi dalam kelas yang semakin tinggi menyebabkan hampir tidak mungkin menyelesaikan satu artikel dalam waktu 1 atau 2 hari;
Di satu sisi, Tim Steemit telah merumuskan dan menjalankan kebijakan yang diharapkan bisa menekan (dan bahkan menghapus) penggunaan AI di dalam partisipasi di dalam Challenge, salah satunya dengan cara mengadakan kelas-kelas dan klub-klub yang mengedepankan praktik. Tetapi, pertanyaan menarik diutarakan oleh @blessedlife, “Apakah (tingginya minat terhadap Challenge pada) musim 22 datang dengan peningkatan yang sangat besar dalam keterlibatan AI dan plagiasi, atau masalah lain?” Dan saya bisa setuju ketika dia meneruskan dengan kalimat, “Kita tidak memiliki data itu.”
Jadi, di sana ada 1) peningkatan semangat untuk memerangi penggunaan AI dalam Challenge, dan 2) penurunan tingkat partisipasi dalam Challenge. Pertanyaan ini memang menarik: “Apakah kedua hal ini memiliki hubungan kausalitas?” Benarkah perang terhadap AI telah menjadi sebab kepada menurunnya partisipasi dalam Challenge? Menurut saya, kalaupun iya, maka itu bukan satu-satunya sebab, dan bukan yang sangat signifikan. Saya lebih percaya bahwa alasan-alasan dalam paragraf pertama tulisan ini lah yang telah menjadi faktor yang lebih besar pengaruhnya dalam kondisi ini.
2. Bagaimana Dengan Nilai Tukar STEEM dan SBD? Apakah Merupakan Salah Satu Faktor Lainnya?
Pertanyaan lain kemudian muncul, apakah fluktuasi nilai STEEM dan SBD juga memiliki pengaruh dalam hal ini? Pertanyaan ini terus menggerogoti pikiran saya, sehingga saya mengumpulkan kembali data-data statistik SLC terbaru sampai ke musim 20, dan data harga historis SBD dan STEEM sepanjang musim-musim tersebut, baik per musim maupun per minggu Challenge. Harga historis STEEM dan SBD saya kumpulkan dari CoinGecko. Saya pikir, ini adalah hal yang menarik. Mungkin di masa depan, secara perlahan saya akan mengumpulkan data jauh ke musim-musim sebelumnya.
3. Statistik
Statistik akan terdiri dari 2 tabel data dan diagram yang dihasilkan darinya. Diagram akan dibagi dalam pantauan berdasarkan : 1) Musim SLC sepanjang 4 musim terakhir dan 2) Minggu sepanjang Musim tersebut; yang masing-masing akan memiliki 5 diagram.

4. Kesimpulan Saya
Menurut apa yang saya lihat, sepertinya melonjaknya harga token STEEM dan SBD pada pertengahan musim 22 tidak memiliki efek yang cukup kuat untuk meningkatkan angka partisipasi pada saat itu. Atau bisa jadi juga karena pelonjakan harga hanya terjadi dalam jendela waktu yang sangat singkat, sehingga belum sempat memberikan efek yang lumayan besar bagi partisipasi dalam Steemit Challenge.
