Meet Floyd the galah .... he is living in a cage ~
My beliefs were put to the test when meeting Floyd the galah. Even though I firmly believe that wild birds should be free to fly, eat the seed, nectar or insects and be with their bird mate,I realise that there are exceptions to this happy scenario.
Floyd is a rescue bird, found lying on the ground all bloodied with a broken wing. Even though mother galah was trying to feed her baby she was little use, he was badly injured with a broken wing, his survival chances were very deem. He would have died or even worse killed by a dog etc.
This couple did a very good deed, they took him home, fixed him up so well that he is now a strong young galah with two workable wings. This took a long time Attachments were formed. They tell me that if Floyd is freed now there is a big chance that either he would be killed by another bird or not know how to eat in the wild.
I learned that the age of the bird when taken into captivity and the duration of time being cared for in a cage are factors to consider when thinking of releasing it. If galahs physical, mental and emotional needs are well catered they are happy birds. Floyd has a tall airy cage, talks to this human friends all the time, has opportunities to fly about inside and along with his seed enjoys a spinach leaf and fruit now and then.
Seems a win win for bird and humans! Releasing Floyd in the bush should have taken place much much earlier for him to integrate back with his flock. The good sign is that Floyd shows all the signs of a happy contented bird.
Happy day guys.
Cheers

Sometimes the things we feel are bad aren't entirely bad or bad at all :)

well that bird can talk, did he tell you that? lol. Howdy angiemitchell. He has a very unique and beautiful pattern of colors. Do they let him fly around the house at times?
Hi janton, and yes they do. He likes to come out of his cage and sit on Graham's shoulders as well as fly.
ha! oh that's too cool, I think that would be fun. And this one talks to? What does he say?
"alright hello beautiful, you're cheeky, I love you" ---- haha.
haha! howdy today angiemitchell! That is so fun...and what does "cheeky" mean again? It's a good thing, a compliment?
Morning janton, Cheeky means brazen, forward, impertinent, clever according to the dictionary. It is a fun social banter way of talking among adults. It is not so pleasant having a cheeky child.
Howdy today angiemitchell! oh I see so that is a fun and playful thing for the bird to call someone cheeky! lol. very good and thanks for the explanation!
