Some thoughts and a question about government.
What has government force ever done that regular people working together voluntarily can't do...?
Other than perhaps break moral values and.. Monopolize force in a given culture of domesticated people?
Said another way.. As someone who no longer believes in government, IE force/control over the people. The word govern means control and the word ment is either the state of being, or "mind".. Either way it means "control" either mind control or the state of being controlled, but it means control.
So.. Since I think it is immoral to forcefully control others, and government is essentially a monopoly on force.. I'll often hear people say that government is necessary for something.. Like.. Maintaining the roads, or welfare services or the military or whatever.
But if you think about it.. All of those things exist in private form within the umbrella of this United States government we have.
Can't speak for the rest of the world, but here we have private military, we have private police, we have private roads being built and we have private individuals helping others voluntarily with their welfare issues.
All of the things statists tend to claim we NEED government for, exist already in a free state.
So.. Genuinely asking.. What does government do that regular people acting voluntarily can not? Other than the couple examples I listed above like breaking moral values by using unjust force and monopolized force. What else..?
I've had one person tell me before that he thinks we need government for researching and developing new technology, but I pointed out how the dudes who were credited with inventing human flight were doing it on a shoe string budget out of a passion for it while the government funded teams who had all the money in the world floundered.
And, I'd say probably much of the most important tech is created in the private sector with no government intervention, and ultimately.. Whether government is involved or not.. It's individual people in the end who are doing these things, they don't NEED to be forced by government or funded by them, it could happen in other ways.
Oh and.. In my own view, I do claim the title of Anarchist because I don't believe we should be "ruled over" but sometimes I'll play the role of Libertarian/minarchist and play the role of "as small a government as possible" and if that were the case, the only one I could justify is a government military.
Yet I no longer believe in National lines, or for the right of governments to supersede individual rights, so.. I think it would be better if we had a private military founded on better and more honorable principles, clearly the military we have is a disaster going around the world murdering millions of innocent people, that's not acceptable.
It would be nice if we could just dismantle the military and live peacefully but there's always a chance a threat from outside earth could appear and we should be prepared to defend ourselves against predator aliens or whatever.. So I do see a need for military at least until we discover if there are other threats out there in the universe.
But.. I dunno.. It's difficult to say cause our current military is so corrupt and fucked up, it seems like it would be less corrupted and fucked up if it were run by individuals with good values than by a secret cabal of dark occult Satanists essentially, or in regular language.. Sociopaths, which is what government tends to attract.
Government by it's very nature attracts sociopaths and those who want to control others, so.. It's really tough if not impossible to find a "good group" of people to immorally and dishonorable exert force and control others in my opinion.
It just doesn't make sense.. How can good people doing a bad thing be so desired and celebrated and on top of that, how could good people doing bad things be a necessary part of our society? That sounds incredibly flawed/defeatist and it needs to be rethought.
If someone tells me we need to do immoral things for society to work, I am extremely skeptical. I immediately try to think of other possibilities.
Some really solid points - I would say that government exists historically as a mechanism for managing trade and the coining/monitoring the integrity of the money (for example: punishing counterfeiting) that trade utilizes.
Have you read "Debt: The First 5,000 Years"?
Additionally, I wrote an article that addresses some of the money integrity/management issues that government handles yesterday. You might find some of the points valuable given the nature of the platform we are on right now.

I don't see why regular people working together can't do that? However.. I would disagree a bit and say government has always been about "control" and that's why the word itself in etymology is basically "control" or the state of being controlled, or mind control. Depending on how you look at it, so.. Whether it's controlling the economy and trade, or the worldview of their people, or expanding their reach.. In the end, when I hear government.. It just basically means one group of people trying to control others.
And no I have not read that, but it sounds interesting! And I do think i already read your link you shared but I'll check it out again.
I definitely agree with the points about control. Money is the vehicle for all financial transaction control...which is why the government losing its grip on that mechanism is so incredible to me.
Ah but immoral in what sense? Putting all murderers down can be considered immoral according to that stupid human rights thing. Just calling it stupid human rights would make people yell blasphemy.
It all comes down to classification for me, we do need to classify people, are they capable human beings is a question that comes to mind, and when they are found to not be, what then?
Why can't we get rid of these people in the top tiers? They have built the rules in such a way that you will never be rid of them, in my opinion and I sound like a broken record, the government is just a glorified calculator which means we are paying people a ton of money to do nothing but figure out how to get more money to do nothing. Kinda like being famous for being famous - Cuntdashians?
Anyway back to... I saw something one day where they had to kill their son because it is law and although there were some grey areas it was law, not because he was bad or would even do whatever again but because others are bad and they will rise up and destroy all that was good unless they felt everyone is equally punished. Well maybe I never saw that but it does ring a bell.
We need the so-called government currently because we know nothing else. People are pathetic and needy and they always want, they are owed because of history or they discovered a new bloody gender or because... Do they really need a reason? No when they feel no one is in charge shit will hit the fan.
We need a government because people will need someone to blame, John won't want to pay his taxes whether you show it to him in black and white, the neighbouring community will think it is 1620 or some shit and want to invade the next one because they have a Wallmart, while john complains about the roads being in a bad state.
We need governing because people have lives to live and no one has time to wonder where public hospitals and schools come from, yes they are shit but they are there. So when they are not there then people get upset because they don't pay taxes but they are some form of minority if you don't believe me just look at their history so they are owed.
I am all for removing the government but would take them over the masses any day.
We need control, separation and classification. We need to know our place but be free to grow.
We want a silver platter with a million dollars and all the attention we can get. People are not really ready for no government because we allow the majority to get what they want instead of forcing them to accept only what they need - at least now both sides are unhappy.
Just my disjointed 2cents. Also has anyone seen Judge Dredd?
