Clouds on the ruin.

Hello everyone, dear friends and welcome back to my blog. An old-fashioned ruin, a barren mountain, and the sky are the protagonists of my new watercolor painting.

How did it occur to me to paint such a desolate subject?

Well, as you know I am very attracted to old houses and more generally to abandoned buildings, and especially painted skies. Then I started with my usual way of working, that is, without a graphic project and the result came to be created gradually.

Spirit and matter.

The founding idea was to create a stark contrast between the earth, represented by the mountain and the ruin, and the air full of light and with a suggestive sky. Now I show you the process of making the painting which in some parts has shown some difficulties.

  Let's start by wetting the sheet of paper with a little spray.

I start painting with a very thin brush, the first guidelines.

I outlined the first shapes and volumes with the burnt Sienna, the dark green and the cerulean blue, all very diluted and on the wet sheet.

Now I show you another technical possibility on the use of watercolor, which I have never talked about: painting with the brush almost dry on the dry sheet.

The result is very captivating, it generates very unique shapes and textures that leave a lot of room for the imagination.
So even using the almost dry color helps to make a painting interesting.

In this passage I highlighted the green vegetation and the ruin.

Note that even in this the dry painting technique helps to make the building more material.

In the penultimate passage I made the mountain and the plain stand out with darker colors, natural Sienna Burnt Sienna. I painted the two bare trees that recall the desolate forms of the landscape.

In the last and definitive passage I highlighted the stripes of the fields on the plain, and more shadows on the wild vegetation.
I have also strengthened some clouds and parts of the color of the sky.

Nuvole sul rudere.

Ciao a tutti quanti, cari amici e bentornati sul mio blog.

Un rudere, di foggia antica, una montagna brulla, e il cielo sono i protagonisti del mio nuovo dipinto ad acquarello.

Come mi è saltato in mente di dipingere un soggetto così desolato?

Beh, come sapete sono molto attratto dalle case vecchie e più in generale dagli edifici abbandonati, e dai cieli dipinti in modo particolare. Poi sono partito con il mio solito modo di lavorare, cioè senza un progetto grafico e il risultato è venuto a crearsi mano a mano.

Spirito e materia.

L'idea fondante è stata quella di creare un netto contrasto tra la terra, rappresentata dalla montagna e dal rudere, e l'aria piena di luce e con un cielo suggestivo. Adesso vi mostro il processo di realizzazione del dipinto che in alcune parti ha mostrato qualche difficoltà.

Partiamo proprio dall'inizio.

  Cominciamo con il bagnare di acqua il foglio di carta con un piccolo spray.

Inizio a dipingere con un pennello molto sottile, le prime linee guida.

Ho delineato le prime forme e volumi con la terra di Siena bruciata, il verde scuro e il blu ceruleo, tutti molto diluiti e sul foglio bagnato.

Adesso vi mostro un'altra possibilità tecnica sull'uso dell'acquarello, di cui non ne ho mai parlato: dipingere con il pennello quasi asciutto sul foglio asciutto.

Il risultato è molto accattivante, genera forme e texture molto singolari che lasciano molto spazio all'immaginazione.
Quindi anche usare il colore quasi asciutto contribuisce a rendere interessante un dipinto.

In questo passaggio ho messo in evidenza il verde della vegetazione e il rudere.

Notate che anche in questo la tecnica di pittura asciutta contribuisce a rendere più materico l'edificio.

Nel penultimo passaggio ho fatto risaltare la montagna e la pianura con colori più scuri, terra di Siena naturale Terra di Siena bruciata. Ho dipinto i due alberi spogli che richiamano le forme desolate del paesaggio.

Nell'ultimo e definitivo passaggio ho evidenziato le strisce dei campi sulla pianura, e più ombre sulla vegetazione selvatica. Ho anche rafforzato alcune nuvole e parti del colore del cielo.
