Bitcoin Block Reward

As time passes more blocks are on the chain, and the less bitcoins are left to mine.

Bitcoin Mining Reward are classified withing ERAS, there will be a total of 34 “reward eras”.
On the genesis era 50 bitcoins were earned as a reward for the miner who found the block,
it dropped next to 25 bitcoins per block and then nowadays to 12,5.

Block Rewards are halved each around 4 years or on each 210,000 Block to be more exact.

Next Reward ERA (No. 4) is expected to start In May 2020 resulting in 6.25 bitcoins per block.

Doing the math, the last Bitcoin should be mined sometime in the year 2140!

What Next When the Last Bitcoin is Mined?

Bitcoin miners are paid transaction fees as well, these fees will keep Bitcoin running and incentivising miners to keep running the network.
