Selection of sculptures inspired by Simon Bolivar part 1

Simón Bolívar is the most important national hero of Venezuela, this because he started a process of emancipation from the Spanish empire by liberating different countries like Bolivia, Colombia, Peru, Panama, Ecuador and Venezuela.

When I was a child I belonged to a student movement called Bolivarian society, something like a math club with its respective Olympics, only that it is in the society I had to prepare with different speeches of Bolivar and characters related to the independence of Venezuela.

The wooden sculptures that you can see in the graphics were donated by different artists from Venezuela, the technique is similar in all the sculptures the style is called naive art, developed mainly by people who do not have knowledge of academic art and that as time went by other sculptors began to incorporate into their catalog techniques.

In itself I do not find much aesthetic appeal but I must admit that this type of art has become a popular style, usually can be found in souvenir shops.

The figures remind me of the characters painted by the great painter El Greco, some disproportions in order to exaggerate the features, also has some caricature style because of the picturesque faces and poses.

This does not represent Venezuelan sculptural art by any means, but it does represent an important part of the social imaginary in Venezuela.

Beyond this appreciation, the genuine intention and the power of the figure of Bolivar, who after his death continues to inspire thoughts of freedom through art, are in a permanent exhibition located in the house where Simon Bolivar was born.

I have visited different places in the country and I have always found this type of sculptures. It is as if all the artisans knew each other to agree on the line to follow in carving.

I am very attentive to visit other places and try to collect photographs of similar sculptures to try to make a comparison of how the sculptures are different sites.

Be very aware of my next public I will be soon to start the puppet workshop in the community and I am preparing the production of STEEMON puppet based on the blockchain of steem.
