The Bounty of My Petite Homestead

This weekend the last of my spaghetti squash were harvested. 5 of my 7 zucchini plants were done for the season and into the compost they went as well. I like to rotate the area where I plant heavy feeders like zucchinis with French beans, or any bean really. This helps bring nutrients back into the soil and helps avoid any diseases and pests. So seeds were sown to replenish these areas.

I also discovered my sun hat made an excellent impromptu egg basket.

I dotted my garden with more lavender, cinnamon basil, rosemary and planted some candy corn pumpkins. All my cilantro plants have bolted so I'll be picking coriander soon!

I can't wait for my next harvest! I'm forever grateful for the bounty this patch of dirt gifts me.

And now to eat this portobello burger I just grilled.

How did your weekend go? I can't wait to hear all about it!

Thank you! I appreciate you stopping by.
Happy Monday!

Glad to see that your land is giving you all you need! Grandson and I spent the weekend adding dirt into one of the new garden beds, going to do some pumpkin when it is ready. Most everything else in the garden is winding down and ready to be trimmed and put into compost.
Besides outdoor work, worked in wood-shop on the little free library we are about ready to put out near the street, and built a sliding door for my apartment bedroom. Rustic barn door look to replace the big door that swings out blocking the space. :-) Thanks for sharing your day with us.

Oh dear friend, getting dirt under our fingernails is ever so rewarding!
My garden too is winding down and I'm rotating just about everything it seems. I had no luck with my lettuce this year. Due to the heat, it bolted but I discovered that sautéing the thick and brittle leaves that were left with a little unsalted butter, diced garlic, salt and cracked pepper then topped with some grated parmigiana were quite a delight! Nothing going to waste here haha
The rustic barn door sounds lovely!
Oh I wish my community had one of those free library, take one leave one, shelves!
Happy Monday!
May you have a lovely week!

Amazing your harvesting squash already, ours generally don't harvest till September. I'll be honest, my mother in law does all the gardening, I get the grunt work of mowing the lawn. Terrific post.

I hate mowing, your mother in law is a smart lady haha That was my Saturday morning chore growing up. :)

My zucchini had powdery mildew on the leaves so I was kinda glad it was done giving us it's fruit. I just planted some Swiss chard right now, that one gives leaves forever! I had quite a few plants but my chickens escaped one morning and got into it. lol

Have a lovely evening friend!

Yum! and I'm growing some spaghetti squash in my backyard also! I used the seeds from the spaghetti squash from my foodie post. :)

Isn't it the best! 80% of what I eat comes from my own backyard. It's a lot of work, but certainly rewarding.

Happy Monday to you friend!

Your harvest look delicious as always. I'm still a partial meat-eater, so I'd have to swap out the portobello for (cover the hens ears) chicken. But I know how much better things taste when you know you grew it yourself. This week I will be ending the growing cycle in my front hydrogardens and starting with new plants next week after the 4th. I will do a post on my garden then.

Oh friend I'm not a vegetarian, but a partial meat eater like yourself. I consider me more of a lacto-ovo-pescatarian. I can never so no to cheese, eggs, butter and lobster haha
I am looking forward to your post! Yay!

Happy Monday :)
