NEVER A WASTE

And there were some that had indignation within themselves, and said, "Why was this waste of the ointment made? For it might have been sold for more than three hundred pence and have been given to the poor. And they murmured against her. Mark 14:4-5

The above verse talks about the reaction of the people around when the woman with the alabaster box broke it before the feet of Jesus.
Their reaction is one that many of us have when it comes to giving. When it comes to giving to the body of Christ like this woman did many of us become hesitant. Like those standing by we begin to consider all the other needs that surround us in our everyday life. In this case it was for the poor but in your case it might be a bill you are yet to pay or what you are going to eat next. These considerations normally stop us from giving and portrays such offerings as a waste. Yet let us look at the response of Jesus towards this act.
First of all, he rebuked all those who accused the woman of wastage showing that to him it was never a waste. We should know that this also applies to us so that our offerings and sacrifices unto God are never a waste.
Secondly, he said in verse 9 of that chapter that this woman would be remembered forever for this act of worship which also assures us that our acts of love and sacrifice are not forgotten by God. He sees that which we do for him and would reward us in due time. This ought to encourage us to keep giving unto God and not hold back.

LIFE APPLICATION
When you are hesitant in giving to God remember these things and be encouraged.
