Nothing is quite like filming a death metal video
I’ve been shooting and directing a bleak death metal music video over this last week.
I have to say, I’m absolutely knackered.
Producing, directing, shooting, editing, prop making, tea making etc is all super stressful, especially all at the same time.
But there’s something extremely satisfying and daft about this genre; it invites you to be inventive and play with concepts and visuals that push your boundaries (if you let them)
On this I wanted to play on the visual metaphor of a slow death.
Based on the idea that they are coming for you. Slowly and inevitably to drag you away from your home.
Death is coming.
This kind of video is also a good one for guerrilla filmmakers like myself - its rough visual nature lends itself to my way of working.
A fair amount of prep has gone in to the shoot which happened on the 16th (at the quarry I posted about previously) and the shoot-edit has gone reasonably well since.
I’m glad we put the work in... it wouldn’t have happened otherwise.
The video is for a track called ’Phantoms’ and the video is looking like it might be finished in the coming few days.
There’s not many photos to really share yet but I like this one.
And there’s nothing like a photo of a robed ghoul having a ciggy on the moors near the flapping tarpaulin ‘shelter’ in gale force winds as it’s pissing down and your camera gets wet.

The ghoul is smiling, so either the weather wasn’t that bad or you have incredible skills to please the afterlife !COFFEEA

Ha, funnily the actress saw this photo and said the same thing.
She was very upbeat about it all during filming. Plus the make up exaggerates the smile a bit; like joker!

That is a great photo and the spot you're at does look like it conveys the message you are trying to get across. Sounds like a lot of work but it's awesome that it's also rewarding and satisfying for you. Good luck on the rest of the project! Hopefully we get to see the finished product
