My Horrible City -Skopje.
Hi people , few days ago i said that i will explain to you the good and bad things about the city I live [Skopje] . So I wanted to start about the bad side of my city. You know that day to day in too many places , countries , cities the air is getting poluted by exhaust gases , factory smokes , trash and too many things. Our city has got a population like 800.000 .
It's a very small city but there is not problem in the population . The biggest problem it is based on 1963 Skopje earthquake. If you search a little on internet about this 1963 earthquake you can get too many informations. The earthquake was a 6.1 moment magnitude which killed over 1,070 people, injured between 3,000 and 4,000 and left more than 200,000 people homeless. About 80 percent of the city was destroyed.
After the earthquake the government of Yugoslavia wanted to make a restoration to the city. In 1965, the Japanese architect Kenzo Tange was asked by the United Nations to enter a limited competition for the redevelopment of Skopje .
All the things were good , the city was completly renewed but there was a problem that nobody couldn't think.
They started to make big buildings front of the Vodno ( the mountain around Skopje). Vodno was a big wind source for Skopje and you know that wind is very important for air condition. They Made too much buildings and today if you have chance to come to Skopje , you could see that buildings and you can notice that there is no air condition. Last year and also this year people started to protest this situation and every single day they went to the government house . And Today still we are waiting to find some solution for this big problem.
Now I'm gonna show you some pictures about our air pollution and you will learn something new.
This was our air pollution degree 1 month ago.
And here you can see the air pollution levels.
