Former Chairman of Pyidaungsu Hluttaw or Myanmar Parliament, U Win Myint, was elected president on Wednesday after reaching more than two-thirds of the legislator's vote. Myint was elected president replacing U Htin Kyaw who resigned last week for health reasons.

Win Myint, a close ally of Myanmar's de facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi, won 403 out of a total of 636 parliamentary votes. Although the parliament has not confirmed, the inauguration of Myint is expected to take place tomorrow.

Win Myint is a senior member of the Suu Kyi party, the National League for Democracy (NLD). The election of Win Myint as president is seen as the continuation of Suu Kyi's domination and her party at the executive level of government.
Although the government of authority is not very influential, but the role of president is considered able to assist the leadership of Suu Kyi.

Some observers hope such arrangements could continue under Win Myint.

"There will be no policy change, the policy will continue as before under the former president," said a member of the NLD fraction aerographer, Kyaw Tote, as quoted by Reuters.

The military junta's constitutional constitution prohibits Suu Kyi from becoming president when the 72-year-old woman won the 2015 election. Therefore he chose his confidant from NLD, Htin Kyaw, to become president.

After Htin Kyaw stepped down, Suu Kyi was also unable to assign other believers to fill the post. Analysts consider Win Myint's loyalty to make Suu Kyi choose it.

The 66-year-old man has been a member of parliament since 2012. Win Myint is considered a close personal to the people of government including the military.

"He's good at legislation and administration, and I think that's a good thing," said NLD faction parliament representative Nwe Nwe Aung.
