100 DAYS OF STEEM - The Biggest Event of the Year - Day of the Sea and Tallship Regate - A visual Story (28 Photos)
As you maybe aware, I live in quite a small city of Klaipeda, Lithuania, which is not so small port on a Baltic Sea. And obviously many local long years traditions are related to the Sea.
In not a surprise, that biggest event of the year is a Day of the Sea Festival (or day of the City), which happens last weekend of July or 1st weekend of August. This is the best warmest Summer period here
During the Festival a crowd of people is coming from all around Lithuania (and most probably some from Latvia and Russia too) and City looks really overcrowded.
At same time we normally do have a lot of sailing ships and yachts inside the port coming from all the Baltic Sea. And once in a few years the City becomes oficially one of the finishing/start points of famous Tallship Regate. And then we may have up to 200 various ships and yachts moored alongside, including most known in the world Kruzenshtern, Sedov, etc
So, this visual reportage coming from July, 2017 the last time we had Tallship Regate. Regretfully this year definitely due COVID19 the Fest will be cancelled at the most part of it.
Lest start from the first day and how it looked like when ships started to arrive port one by one. All shots done from the breakwavers line - the northern part of the gates to the Port
Next target was a bit later on same day. We moved to the Old City closer to the evening to attend some live air performances. Here are some views to the yachts port and some colorful ones closer to sunset. Port looks pretty unusual through the network of ropes too :)
The most interesting part was next day. It is very nice tradition during the Fest to go outside to the Sea (about few miles) to drop flowers rememebering the seamen who not returned....
While working in port I do have easy possibility to board a tugboat for such a trip
Normally trip starts from certain period of time maneuvering inside the port aquatory. This bring very cool opportunity to shoot sailing ships from the "water" side
Then about midday certain number of ships including a Military one, port Firefighter, some tugboats and motor yachts and boats are being lined up and proceed through the port gates outside. If weather is good and calm, the journey is very pleasant. But it happens the weather still quite rough, then this journey becomes a much more attraction with much more adrenaline ;)
This time, however, was more or less calm and sunny
And even bird were watching this event sitting on the stones :D
Well when back into port aquatory normally there is also a water show of two tugboats, which is quite fun if you watch it from the side, not being on the deck of those two. Its too wet there... :)
That all for today and see you next time!
