NEW YEAR RESOLUTION

I hear people often complain that they find it hard keeping their New Year resolution. Some even start well but along the line a month, two or so it becomes arduous to keep up. This happens because most times we do not really understand what a resolution is and why we need one.

To begin with, what is resolution? Resolution is the act of determining or resolving. It is a firm decision to do or not to do something. It is that change you need to make that will bring an eventual change to your world and destiny.

You need to know that your resolution should not be peculiar to a New Year, month or week. It is about you and you should make resolutions more often at different phases of your life. One of the reasons we do not get things right when it comes to New Year resolutions is that we fail to realize that a new year is just a continuation of our life.

It is today’s tomorrow and just like every other year. It is the decisions we made that make the difference.

You writing a resolution do not automatically make it achievable. You need to act on it otherwise it will only be a mere wish.

Point to note

Your resolution is a plan to achieving your life’s purpose so if you don’t have a goal for life then you do not need a resolution.

Resolutions are just path to a destination, so it is expedient you know where you are going to and know how to get there. If you don’t know where you are going you are likely to take a different route and you will end up wasting time and resources.

So, be sure you know what your purpose is first before making resolutions. Have a picture so as not to end in confusion.
It is not yet a resolution until you are resolute with it.

How determined are you to achieve that course? Are you willing to pay the necessary sacrifice? You need to seat and count the cost before planning. That way you will be more prepared and able to go on with the plans even when it seems more challenging.

Don’t just set goals that you do not know what achieving it entails. If you plan to have saved #200,000 by the end of next year and you earn #40,000 on a monthly basis. Then you should know you will have to spend less.

Perhaps you will have a scale of preference monthly so you can meet up to save. So once you have that in mind, it will be easy to scale through.

Your resolutions should be broken down into simple easily achievable plans. Let’s consider the previous example of someone whose resolution is to save #200,000 by the end of the year, he would not save that in two or three months considering his income.

To make it easily achievable, he can decide to divide that into twelve months and save #16,000 or #17,000 on a monthly basis. If yours is to acquire a skill, you could break it down and that way it will be easy to monitor your progress.

Your resolutions should be time bound. You do not just say by next year I want to do this or that. You should break it down into weekly, monthly or quarterly plans.

If you do not have a time limit for your plans you likely may keep procrastinating and you find out that by the end of the year, you would not have achieved much.

You can decide to have what I call a check mate. Have someone who is responsible and you can be accountable to.

Relate your resolutions with him or her and ask him to keep you in check.

To make it more interesting, you can be the persons checkmate to so you can follow up each other and monitor each other’s progress.
Lastly, always review.

You need to be flexible with your resolutions.

Along the line you may get a better understanding of your purpose in life and you will need to bring up some new plans or put away some.

Remember, it is only a path to your destination.

So as you begin the New Year, do not write resolutions because it is a norm or you feel you should rather do because you intend being a better person after all. Be Resolute…

I wish you the best in 2018.
