Starbucks Ready to Buy Gayo Coffee Without Limits, Origin
Managing Director of Starbucks, Colman Cuff, said it was ready to buy Gayo Arabica coffee without any limit. "Unlimited for Gayo Coffee," Colman Cuff said as released by Bener Meriah Public Relation received by reporters in Redelong, Aceh, Tuesday, April 24, 2018.
This was revealed by Colman Cuff during a dialogue with two regents from the Gayo Arabica coffee producing region, namely Bener Meriah Ahmadi Regent and Gayo Lues Muhammad Amru Regent who visited Starbucks Headquarters in Seattle, USA.
However, Colman said, Starbucks enacted one requirement on the standardization of coffee they would buy ie coffee that has certified cafe practices. "We give priority to good quality and consistency to the quality we set, we only buy coffee that has cafe practices certificates, so your entrepreneur must have that requirement if you want to be part of Starbucks," Colman told Ahmadi Regent.
On that occasion, Colman, also requested a list of coffee exporters in Bener Meriah recommended to be a partner for Starbucks.
It is known that Starbucks has only been cooperating with Baburrayan Cooperative in Central Aceh Regency, which has certified cafe practices to supply Gayo Arabica coffee to the world's largest coffee company.
The meeting of the Starbucks team with two regents from the Gayo highlands also discussed related to the use of Gayo Coffee brand in Starbucks body which still pinned Sumatra Coffee label for coffee products from Gayo region. "We want the name of coffee purchased from our region using the Gayo Arabica label," Ahmadi told Colman Cuff.
Colman said he would consider it. For that, said Colman, it needs to do a survey first trip first to see directly the area of Gayo coffee production spread over three districts, namely Bener Meriah, Central Aceh, and Gayo Lues.
"This is important because the brand we produce will embed the name of our coffee and taste, we need to do an original trip to see the broad standards and production that will become a requirement in Gay Gayo brand inclusion on our products," said Colman will visit Gayo in October 2018.
Bener Meriah Ahmadi Regent is in Seattle, USA, to attend the SCA Coffee Expo exhibition with the Aceh Government delegation. SCA Coffee Expo is the largest coffee exhibition in the world that brings coffee entrepreneurs from various countries around the world from producers, buyers, and the coffee processing industry.
