About hope: its definition, importance, and power

The word "hope" is one of the words with a variety of definitions; it also connotes different meanings. Also, it can be defined based on everyone's state of mind, aspirations, or the environment where the definer is. However, my definition will try to cover it all.

✓My Definition of Hope:

"Hope," to me, is the desire or an expectation for positive things to happen. The optimistic state of mind that has to do with hope can be of events in either one's life or the society or world in general. For example, if I'm expecting a credit alert of $3 billion before the year ends, it's called "hope," or if I'm praying for Ghana's football team to win this year's World Cup, it means I'm also hoping. The two examples show hope for myself and hope for a nation at large.

✓The importance of hope:

Hope is very important to every human being. It doesn't matter the action; some people hope with their actions, while others hope just with their thoughts. Some of the common benefits of hope are

  • Hope reduces so many helpless feelings.

  • Hope helps improve the quality of our lives.

  • Hope reduces stress and increases happiness feelings.

✓The power of hope:

Apart from its importance, it's also powerful. Some of the powers of hope are

  • Hope motivates a lot. It energizes the body to take action.

  • Hope reminds us that our future is better no matter the past, so it encourages us to play our roles.

  • It also helps keep the body going because of the positive expectations.

My hope: newly planned expectations

Just like every human being, I have hope in a lot of things too; however, I choose to pen down my hope for the betterment of my country, Nigeria.
My hopes for my country to be better have been delayed, yet they are still newly planned expectations.

I wouldn't have been hoping for my country to be better if it was already better and nothing more was needed. It might be known to many that Nigeria, my country, is viewed worldwide as not just a corrupt country but also a country with high levels of security challenges, to name a few.

These top-notch challenges beset the country as a result of bad leadership and ruling methods. As we all know, when a country's leader is bad, poor leadership can have lots of consequences that can be felt by the citizens.

Hopes for Nigeria in the forthcoming election

Because of bad leadership that resulted in giving the country a bad name, most citizens aren't patriotic about their country, but because they can't erase the fact that Nigeria is their country, they are left with little or no option.
Nevertheless, when it seems like all hope is lost for Nigerians, election keep reminding them that all hope isn't lost yet, as it's their opportunity to choose credible leaders.

Within a few months from now, precisely next year in February, Nigerians will find themselves in polling units where they will choose their preferred candidates who will lead them for another 4 years.
This act will put an end to the present government and hopefully introduce new and credible leaders.

My expectation is for the election to be free and fair. Let the people decide on their best candidate, who will rule them. And after the general elections, there comes my hope: that we, the citizens, will experience a better quality of life and be proud of the country from which we are coming.

Conclusion

If clearly viewed, this has to be a hope for the nation at large and not for myself or my selfish interests. I chose to write about my hopes for my country rather than personal hopes because I believe when the country is safe and in good condition, I will stand a better chance of admiring my personal hopes in the long term.

May my hope not be in vain.
God bless Nigeria.
God bless her patriotic citizens.
