"Doctor! Doctor!! Doctor!!!, an emergency case just came in" shouted the nurse. Without wasting much time, the doctor excused himself from the patient he was attending to as he rushed to attend to the emergency case brought forward to him. On getting to the patient he offered first aid to the person, before administering other medications to the patient.

Doctor Sukanmi Ajani, a medical practitioner for over 20years and a father of four children. It hasn't always been an easy journey for him. But he became successful through sheer hardwork and determination. Attending to the final patient, Doctor Sukanmi looked up at the brown wall clock in his office.

"Oh its closing time, I better hurry up before I get stuck in the busy roads of Lagos" said Sukanmi. Stepping out of his office, Doctor Sukanmi is greeted by workers of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), being loved by everyone he works with cause of his jovial and free spirit nature.

Stepping out of the hospital, Sukanmi loosened his tie, as he walked towards a black Bugatti Veyron parked under the shades of a mango tree. He smiled at his car, as it was his dream to own sport cars that were sleek, fast and beautiful but having this kind of car in Nigeria hasn't been easy. Maintenance cost of the car has been high due to the potholes, traffic and reckless drivers he has to face on a daily basis. He still managed to keep the cost to a bearable minimum.

Driving on the roads of Lagos, Sukanmi cussed beneath his breath as his worst nightmare comes to life again, "Lagos traffic jam". Knowing, he was gonna be in this for a long time, he simply turned on the AC and played cool music as he reminisce about his journey, hardships he had to face and relationships he had.

Some 30years Back

"Sukanmi! Sukanmi!! Sukanmi!!!, Why are you still asleep by this time, aren't you going for tutorial today ?" his mother said.

"I am going ma, I was burning the midnight candle didn't know time had gone" He replied.

"Oya go and take your bath, I have prepared akara and ogi for you and your younger sister so when you are through, eat before you leave." said his mother.

Sukanmi hastened to the bathroom as he prepared for tutorial for JAMB, an examination he needed to pass in order to get into the University. He wrote the exam, the past year after he was done with his WAEC examination where he did very well having 4 A's and 4 B's. He scored 287 in the previous JAMB examination and got 78% in his POST-UTME exams. He applied for medicine with his score even beating the cut off mark and should have been offered Medicine. The course he originally applied for, but he wasn't given due to the corrupt policies of the University and he was given microbiology which he rejected vehemently and his dad was totally in support of.

He decided to enrol for JAMB examination with his choice of school being University of Lagos, and his choice of study Medicine and Surgery as it was his dream to be doctor. Sukanmi was always an early bird in tutorial as he always to get a seat in front.

Life in the tutorial had its own experience, as Sukanmi noticed ladies flocked around him a lot cause he was brilliant. He knew he couldn't get too attached as what he was after was more than chasing girls. Though, one lady caught his eye during his time in tutorial. She was majestic and the most beautiful lady he has ever seen.

Unknown to Sukanmi she was gonna play an integral part in his life. Sukanmi has always been a shy kid, quiet and reserved not one who really related with the ladies. But her case was different, he had to be with her and couldn't stop thinking about her all day..

Being someone who never expressed how he felt, he knew he had an herculean task at hand. If he is to get the girl of his dream, he had to summon every ounce of courage he can get. So the appointed day for him to proclaim his love for her came.

"Modupe, ehhmm I don't really know how to ehmmm I mean ehmmm " Sukanmi stuttered as he tried to talk, he felt like his teeth wouldn't stop shaking and his heart beat so loud he thought modupe would hear it.

"Calm down Sukanmi, say what you wanna say or is it that hard for you to say" modupe questioned.

"I just wanna say I like you. like really like you and wanna be with you" Sukanmi quickly spoke as if he had eaten hot yam.

Modupe smiled at him, not wanting to hurt his feeling too much. She politely told him that she has a boyfriend that she couldn't leave.

Shocked to core of his bones, Sukanmi trebled as he hears the words flow out through her lips. He couldn't comprehend what to do as he never experienced an emotion like this. Throughout the day, Sukanmi couldn't concentrate on anything. His mind strays away from his body, broken hearted and disappointed.

With his mind replaying the events of what had happened he couldn't help but feel sad and anguish. Unknown to him, this would be a blessing in disguise. Sukanmi picked his pen and paper as he scribbled how he felt at that exact moment shortly after which he slept off. Waking up from his slumber, Sukanmi read what he had written down and he discovered he had just written his first poem. He never knew he had such latent ability before. His heart getting broken brought out the poet in him, he never knew he had.

This was the beginning of his poetic journey. Sukanmi was able to close off the disappointment of Modupe but he remained friends with her since he never knew there was any girl like her. He and Modupe's friendship grew by the day, as they became closer than normal.

JAMB examination was close by, Sukanmi put in more work into his studies as he wants to surpass his limits.

Sukanmi, my child I pray you pass with flying colors and make I and your dad proud. Have you heard, please ooo do this thing so that I can be happy" Sukanmi mother lamented.

Yes ma, I promise you I would pass tremendous. I have studied as hard as I can and also prayed to God to make my exam a success" He replied.

Sukanmi, we are going to be late. Aren't yiy done ni ? His dad screamed.

Yes dad, I am coming" He replied putting a slice of bread in between his teeth.

Sukanmi rushed to meet his father outside, they drove to his examination center. As its with students, He had a slight examination jitters but he overcame it as he did some mental exercise.

Two hours, 180questions stared back at Sukanmi. He had 4subjects to do English Language, Physics, Chemistry ,and Biology. He took in a. heavy breath of air and exhaling it out. Afterwards, he did some prayers before he started his exams.

A week later, tension had risen when the results of the concluded JAMB was announced. Sukanmi had fears but he trusted in what he did, though he had some of his friends had failed to meet the necessary cut off.

"Sukanmi! Sukanmi!! Sukanmi!!! are you even in this world at all ? I have screaming at the top of my voice for quite some while" his mom said.

"Sorry ma, I was just thinking about my result and was lost in thought" He replied.

"Your dad is at the gate, he called you should come open the gate for him" his mom said

"Oh lemme go and open the gate for him" he replied.

Rushing, He hastened to open the gate for his father. With his Toyota Camry, Mr Ajani drove into his compound.

"Ehn ehn Sukanmi I have printed your JAMB result oo, bring that envelope in with my bag" his father said.

With his heart skipping a beat, all kind of thoughts went through his mind in a split second.

The moment of truth had finally come, would he stay one more year or would he be forced to another course.......
