A KISS IN TIME

Bastion Blacknell lived in an English village,
A most quiet place, no rape or pillage,
A poor player, who frets his way upon life’s stage,
Seeking an event, success to engage.
Struts and frets, then is heard of no more,
Walking unsteadily, out of life’s door.

His sister, one Tryphosa Blacknell,
Was fortunate enough to meet a “swell”.
A village Squire, of the upper crust.
Content to canoodle, not engage in lust!
Tryphosa was a lady who didn’t mess around.
She had clear-cut objectives, not new-found.
Since her informative years she had felt,
That any man in her life must wear trousers and a belt!
In other words, he must act the filial head,
The familial leader, to be fit to wed.
Tryphosa felt the Squire could fit the bill,
He seemed wealthy enough, although a bit of a dill.
“We’ll soon knock that out of him!”
Tryphosa did exclaim, looking rather grim.

The Squire rode by, and at Tryphosa lovingly looked.
In truth, at that very moment he was hooked!
Nuptials followed soon thereafter,
After the ceremony, much less laughter,
She pushed him back, as he went to kiss her on the lip.
“You and me, we’re going to run a tight ship!”
And thus they started their wedded bliss,
With a “tight ship” not a loving kiss!
