Hello wonderful people,

I am very excited to be among the participants of this great contest organized by @steemwomenclub as it will help us showcase our great local attires.

INTRODUCTION

Our look is strongly influenced by the clothes we wear, and as a result, an increasing number of people are debating whether we should dress Locally or follow western fashion trends. A small number of people still believe that our local garments symbolize our culture and identity, and that removing them would be equivalent to losing our culture.

On the other side, local clothing represents our culture and identity. If we want to keep our traditions alive, we must hold on to them. If we do not promote our traditions, no one will, and they will most likely become extinct.

People that travel overseas tend to adopt the prevalent western patterns, forsaking their national identity and traditions in the process.

Furthermore, persons dressed in their local attire represent unity. According to a study children who dressed locally had fewer behavioral and emotional issues, regardless of western culture. They are not confused about their identity or who they are since they are in touch with their ancestral culture, religion, and traditions!

Local attire

I am a Nigerian, and the attire unique to Nigerians is the Ankara and Lace

ANKARA

Ankara is a 100% cotton fabric with bright designs that is also known as "Ankara prints," "African prints," "African wax prints," "Holland wax," and "Dutch wax." It is usually a brightly colored cloth with tribal-like designs and themes that are associated with Africa.

It's also a very adaptable fabric that can be used to make hats, jewelry, coats, and shoes, to mention a few things. Fashion brands and fabric suppliers have created ankara prints on fabrics such as chiffon, silk, and spandex for clothes such as kaftans, iro, and bubas, bathing suits, sports bars, leggings, and socks to make ankara an even more versatile fabric.

Fabrics with ankara prints are normally sold by the yard, 6 yards, or 12 yards. On the selvage of the fabric, the fabric business, product, and registration number are printed to alert customers to the fabric's quality and to safeguard the designs from imitators.

Because of the manufacturing procedures, wax fabric can be divided into quality groups. Ankara print fabrics can be worn for everyday situations, although many people consider it a formal fabric and only wear it for special occasions.

LACE

Lace are unique, they vary in texture, colour and designs. They are worn for special occasions such as wedding ,burial etc.
They are usually of different prices and are really more expensive than the Ankara. Unlike Ankara, lace are sold per yards. They can be sewn in variety of styles.

The price of the Attire in steem.

Ankara are much cheaper than lace. Ankara are sold either 3yrds or 6yrds. 3yrds of ankara(daviva) is 1000naira which is equivalent to 4steem. While 6yrds is equivalent to 8steem.

Laces are more expensive, a yard of lace is sold at 2000naira which is equivalent to 16steem.

Conclusion

Local attires are beautiful, everyone should be proud of their local attire as they help promote our cultural values and heritage. I will like to invite @meniya @chiomy @realamy @kennie19 @glorygogo1234 to participate in this contest.
