Art for Games - HEX TCG - The Howling Rebel

in #art7 years ago (edited)

Helllloooo Steemerss!

I hope you are all doing well? :)

I just found out one of the most recent HEX TCG cards I've done was released..
And since most of my work from the last few months is still heavily under NDA (some might never see the light of day.. dum dum dummm)
I figured I'll make a little post about this one!.. how this came to be.. and what it eventually looks like as the card itself!

I'll post the progress from start to finish!
Here we go!

I first started of with the sketch.. It is very very rough and I remember that when i actually had to start painting i regret i took soo ittle time to set this up! :'(

The followed the first pass.. I block in some basic colors and a background tone and some cloud thingies..
So far so good.. but in a few moments you will start laughing your ass off... seriously!

I spend a little more time painting it up.. trying to get most of the final values and colors in from the start.. that allows me to be most efficient when rendering everything up and i wont have to make any drastic changes .. value wise.. the laughing will start soon..

Yes.. this is already starting to look freaking weird.. The craziest thing is.. When i was working on this .. at this point i still didnt really notice.. but I was fully aware that there was something wrong..

I rendered and rendered.. hoping that weird looking-ness would go away eventually.. at this point i still didnt realize it.. i didnt see it so i couldnt fix it..

And then it CLICKED... because i flipped my canvas.. The guy didnt have a neck! .. OMG! -_-!
If you see this guy now and you go back up.. the milk will shoot out ur nose!

At this point I knew exactly how i had to do though.. Now it was just a matter of time and rendering ;)

To the finished image! :D
And the card .. how it looks in the game!

Hope you guys like it!
If you have any questions, comments or whatever! Just leave them below!

Thank you so much!

Cheers!

Thing is till third image it looks just fine...prolly cuz of the shades etc...but then i got to the 4th image and was like: did his head shrink? What happened? Lol...so yeah...i noticed it...dont matter...at the end u got a great final "product". Looks awesome!

Thank you :D
Yeh it was nuts.. when i was drawing/painting it first it didnt occur at all to me.. then at some point i was just sooo sure there was something off . but didnt know what XD

When i finally saw him not having a neck i lolled XD

From your first sketch you wouldn't notice that there wasn't a neck because it appears as if there is and I think it was only as the picture become more dimensional that you notice that the mouth area takes up all of the chest. I still didn't notice until you pointed it out and then it became so blatant, no offence, that's some really great work 😁 He looks so much more fiercer with the neck!

hehehe thanks mate :D
Yeh it is weird how you can not see something .. and then never unsee again XD

Really cool. @beekart

Thanks dude!
