Israeli professor gives opinion of "life-cycle" of Covid-19: Good news or wishful thinking?

in #covid6 years ago

Yitzhak Ben Israel of Tel Aviv University released a paper with the help of another professor yesterday that states, in a shell, that in a shell, all countries, regardless of their containment measures experience a rise in infection past week 6 and then a steep decline at week 8.

I, like most people, have never heard of this guy but he is in a top position in Israel and apparently is quite trusted. His model and analysis of the global reaction to the virus attempt to not take sides but because he focuses on Italy and again mentions the fact that their population is one of the oldest in the world, and mentions that they had a similar number of deaths due to a regular flu outbreak, will certainly turn this into a political discussion that those who have assigned some sort of left wing / right wing position to a virus will not doubt choose to either promote or ignore.

I for one am very hopeful that his views on this virus are true because of a simple reason - it would be wonderful if this could all simply end and we could be done with it without any sort of massive roll out of medication or vaccine.

Personally, I am not an anti-vax and only know one person who is. I normally tell them to shut up about it if it comes up (which it always does with those people - they are like vegans) but I don't like the idea of medication unless it is necessary and the talk about giving people "vaccination certificates" that will indicate whether or not they are allowed out of their houses is the opposite of freedom and I will never support that.

However, is Dr. Israel's model too simplistic to be true? Could it be circumstantial? He even admits in his article / interview that he doesn't understand what he is viewing, but just knows that he is viewing it.

"The reason why coronavirus follows a fixed pattern is yet unknown. "I have no explanation.”

While I appreciate him being so forthcoming, to me this seems too good to be true. That isn't going to stop me from really really really hoping that it is true though.

I suppose we are just a few weeks away from knowing if there is some truth to what he is saying and if that is the case (fingers crossed) we will be able to open countries back up without violence, which the USA is on the brink of as we speak.

What do you think of this? Oh, the full article in question can be found here. See for yourself!
