Hello Steemians, I'm Dave (Beer47), a beer writer and photographer
Hello Steemit community, my name is Dave Jensen, I live in San Francisco with my wife and 2 cats, and I've been writing about and photographing craft beer for 9 years. In January 2009, as a side project, I started Beer47 as a blog and a twitter account to chronicle my craf tbeer adventures. Prior to the blog, I had been interested in craft beer and had been homebrewing for a number of years prior but I was also interested in learning more about blogging and social media and thus Beer47 was born. It wasn't until I started blogging that I realized that I still had quite a bit to learn about beer. Even though I've developed expertise over the years, I also appreciate that there is always more for me to learn about beer and the craft beer industry.
Writing Beer47 has given me the opportunity to explore craft beer and craft breweries throughout the United States and around the world. I've also had the opportunity to write for other organizations, such as Menuism and The Huffington Post. I hope to share more of my beer adventures and photos here on Steemit.
Since I already have a blog on beer47.com, what are my plans for Steemit? On the blog, I've moved away from single beer reviews so I might revive that here. I also curate interesting beer and homebrewing news on a weekly basis in a newsletter, I might share a paired down version of that. It all really depends on what the readers here are interested in.
Although craft beer will be my primary focus on Steemit, I do have other interests. I enjoy playing tabletop board games. I also run a website called Axis & Allies .org, a fansite for the game of the same name. I enjoy building and typing on mechanical keyboards. I'm an avid tennis player. And for my day job I'm an entrepreneur and software developer, which brings me back to craft beer.
One thing I've noticed about my beer blogger friends from 6-9 years ago is that many of them have ended up with jobs in the craft beer industry. Working at tech startups as a software developer/manager, I figured that wouldn't happen to me. Lo and behold, I ended up co-founding a tech start-up dedicated to building software for breweries. The company is called Fermented Labs and we build brewery management software called BREWD.
Sometimes I get asked, "Why 47?" For my undergraduate degree, I attended Pomona College and at Pomona there is mysterious lore for the number 47. It started in 1964, when Professor of Mathematics Donald Bentley proved that all numbers are equal to 47. The proof was just an example for students on how to write mathematical proofs and was not actually mathematically valid. Since then, the coincidences of 47 in relation to Pomona College did not stop. The I-10 freeway off-ramp for Pomona College and the Claremont Colleges is Exit 47, there are 47 pipes in the top row of an organ in the music hall, at the time of the first graduating class, in 1894, there were 47 students enrolled, and the list keeps going. In a sense, the number 47 is an unofficial mascot of Pomona College.
For graduate school, I attended Carnegie Mellon (Silicon Valley campus) but there's no 47 lore there, that I'm aware of. Maybe I should go look for some coincidences.
I'm looking forward to the Steemit community and I would like to thank my good friend from childhood, Roland Morel @rmorel, who encouraged me to join.
You can also sign up for the beer47 newsletter, if that interests you.
Welcome to steemit.
If you ever visit Georgia let me know. You can and will find beer adventures here.
Welcome to Steemit! I'm more of a taster myself, about 47 swigs per day. I'll bet if you think back hard and long enough, you will probably realize you consumed on average 47 beers per month while attending Carnegie Mellon. Sample one more for me! I'll stuck with only one good beer here in the Philippines... San Miguel!
Beer is great. You are lucky to do what you do haha.
