Today Russia celebrates International Women's Day. Now it is a holiday dedicated to all women.
But it has its own history.
Initially, it was a day of solidarity of women in the struggle for equal rights and emancipation in many countries.
There are several versions of the origin of this holiday. And it was not celebrated on March 8.
But it is known only one thing – this holiday was born as a day of struggle for women's rights.
March 8 in the first years of celebration – praised courageous women who proved with their lives that they can be equal to men, that they are no worse. They excelled in traditionally male professions.
Also in Women's Day, the activists staged marches and rallies, attracting the attention of the society to discrimination against women.
Since 1975, the United Nations has also held International Women's Day.
In Russia, this holiday has long lost its feminist orientation, it is not a day of struggle. Quite the opposite.
On this day women focus on their femininity. On this day men give their beloved flowers (mostly tulips) and gifts.
This day became a celebration of women. It is a holiday of tenderness, love, kindness.
This is the day when almost all men behave like gentlemen, especially take care of mothers, daughters, sisters, girlfriends. And women bloom like the first spring flowers.
