Good morning friends, I welcome you to my post. Indeed, I am glad to have you all here, as I am to take part in the contest that was organized by @chant titled: "Emergency Care: Payment Before Treatment."

Emergency Care means the services rendered by the hospitals to take care of patients in need of medication to save lives trying possible best that the patient survives when being rushed to the hospital. It is an emergency service that needs serious attention from hospital personnel. To relate it to my country Nigeria I am going to talk about the situation faced regarding this contest.

The situation in my country faced when it comes to emergency care?

The Nigerian emergency care unit is very active and very responsive to issues concerning life's of its citizens, with many hospitals having their element ready for active service such as ambulance posts in both state and local government communities ensuring it reaches the people in terms of need.

Hospitals in Nigeria attempt to treat everyone especially the ones run by the government which makes it easier for people to access even without payments, also the government hospital due collaborates with other private sectors and NGOs who provide quality services at a wild range. numerous agencies play role in the protection of life and help provide services that support the government at hand, such agencies as the Lagos State Emergency Medical Service (LASAMBUS) which provides mobility of injured persons and conducts pre-medication before taken to the hospital for proper treatment.

Also, we have the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) whose function is to oversee fiascos in Nigeria, it figures out a strategy for movement of a different kind that connects with the catastrophe to execute and make plans for productive impact on a public level.

As a result of fact in Nigeria if a person needing medical attention is been rushed by the agencies registered and properly licensed such a person would be allowed to benefit from the services and treatment would be carried out immediately, whereas the person willing to come on his own or was brought by people the hospital would request for your medical records and also ask for a police report in other not to make things look complicated but easy for treatment.

Hospitals that operate privately are worse at emergency care as they tend to prefer payment before services, they would leave the patient without applying the necessary first aid needed for minor treatment, also before a patient gets treated the patient would deposit money first before proceeding to the next process of aid.

Humanizing healthcare delivery in my country?

Healthcare delivery in Nigeria is in line with humanity, the provision of quality healthcare facilities must be in place, which brings about one key responsibility of the government as a fundamental principle. Regarding the situation, the government of Nigeria has done well by trying to provide many primary health care centers across various communities in the country in other to help especially pregnant women and nursing mothers, older aged people, etc following the National Health insurance Scheme program (NHIS) which give midwifery service also.

source

The National Health Insurance program was created to assure the health of all Nigerians by providing social public health background in Nigeria, to contribute to medical expenses covered by shared funds to which the scheme participants have indulged.

The federal government established the program with the goals in mind:

1, Making sure the citizens have access to quality healthcare services.

2, upgrading the scheme's standards for healthcare delivery services.

3, protection of families from high medical costs.

4, Ensuring the costs of healthcare are fairly distributed among various groups.

It's been noted that women who give birth or are still pregnant go for medical checkups regularly as they are educated about pregnancy complications and antenatal treatments. Those having few days to birth are expected to stay in the hospital for better care and would assign a nurse to take care of them.

Do I encourage or discourage ideas of payment before treatment?

With the way things are recently where money has become a major problem around insecurities, the idea of payment before treatment that I discourage. Illness does not know a rich or a poor man, it comes anytime and sometimes even takes the life of one if not careful enough especially those who are critically sick. A lot of people have died in this process where they have to make payments before their loved ones would be treated which is a wrong thing to do, At least let there be human sympathy, why not start treatment first before knowing what next to do if the payment doesn't come?

This is where the insurance scheme comes into play as it allows those registered to get treatment free before making future payment treatment which the NHIS.

If I was appointed minister of public health in my country and how to tackle issues.

I believe I would try my best to assure the safety of people's health, as appointed minister of public health in Nigeria I would make sure people get registered to the NHIS scheme so as for them to benefit from it also I would ensure both public, civil as well as the private sector to also have their families get registered. I would want the private hospitals to work in line with the scheme directive agreeing to a certain percentage that benefits both the government and the private.

Advise to hospital directors, caregivers, and patients on this issue.

My advice to the directors of hospital establishments caregivers, and patients about this issue is that everyone who is registered with the NHIS scheme should be treated accordingly first before making any payments. In addition, a person of government employees must be able to make payments after treatment, if otherwise, hospital directors should notify NHIS to deduct and transfer funds to the NHIS account.

In conclusion,

I would say life first is all that matters before payment, May God help us all.

Thank you for the visit. I invite @yakspeace @ishayachris and @mjerry to come to participate also.
