Mother's Day Mission and CoronaVirus!

Well... this year, Mother's Day (tomorrow!) crept up a bit on me. Normally, I'm a bit more prepared with my wife's birthday and also Mother's Day... however, this year I've been distracted and a bit overwhelmed by other things. Last year, the kids and I managed to put together a book of photos from the last decade of our fledgling family over the course of the previous few weeks.

This year, I only just remembered that it was Mother's Day today... when I was reading something about Mother's Day in Australia. Now, not all the Mother/Father Day things line up in Australia in the same way as Netherlands... which is a little bit weird when I think about it. So, I wasn't too bothered by it... but I thought that I should just look up the date just in case! CRAP... I found out that I had less than 24 hours to get something organised.

We went for a little bike ride and picnic for lunch... and I was already trying to do some scheming for a way to at least drop by a florist. On the way back, I got the idea of having an ice-cream... which would mean that we would need to drop into the supermarket on the way back. Now, we are still only allowed single person shopping and you need to take a shopping trolley as well... so, the act of just ducking in to get a single box of ice cream would take roughly ten to fifteen minutes.

So, I quickly volunteered to watch the kids in the bakfiets whilst my wife would run in and get the ice creams. As soon as she was in... we quickly raced down to the florist on the bakfiets and managed to quickly choose something (trust me... when you have two kids with you, quickly choosing something is a bit of a relative use of the word!).

We quickly put it in the bike and hid it under my jumper before my wife came out of the supermarket... and then rode home. I had to conspire a bit with my oldest girl for her to ninja up the stairs with the flowers without my wife seeing, but we managed! We are totally TEAM NINJA!

It's not a grand thing this year around... but we managed something. I'll try to get the kids to draw up something this evening and we will cook up a breakfast as well!

Meanwhile, The Netherlands is slowly easing restrictions... well, our profession will be one of the last to start up... I think the sex industry starts before us!

The weather is great, and heaps of people went to the beach... and the trains were completely packed... which wasn't supposed to happen, but knowing human nature, it was really bound to happen. Everyone thinks that their travel is absolutely essential... I'm no different really, I need to take a violin up to a luthier in Amsterdam... and I was going to just take the train, but after today... I'm really considering just driving up, even though it is absolutely horrific to drive in the inner areas of Amsterdam!

That said... I've said it before... on a hot day, why would you want to go to the beach? We tend to go to a park or a forest, somewhere shady. The beach is a desert with salty expanse of water... the definition of hot death!

Meanwhile... progress is being made on the Total Eclipse of the Heart! (I keep writing Sun...) Three of the four parts are completed and synced up... I have little things that I'm not completely happy with mostly with timing and occasionally a bit of tuning. However, it is just for the choir to practice with, so it isn't that critical... that said, if I have time to spare, I will tweak it to be better...

... the slippery slope of recording for a musician!
